The main problem with the fuel tap is the gasket works better if replaced with a thicker o-ring.
Also under braking when forward on the tank and squeezing with your knees you may hear a squeaking sound.
This is not the mouse (Gerald) they supply free with the tank but the fuel tap touching the cooling fins - just grind a bit out of them - Will post a pic of how much I did and no more sound.

I agree, i think chucking the supplied gasket and o-ring and using one thicker o-ring will be the way to go. I got a couple of o-rings from work and am cooking one in gas to see if they are suitable... or if they melt?

Like to see the picture yes please.

Is your tap a stock vacuum operated (On/Prime/Reserve) tap or the one supplied with the tanks (On/Off/Reserve)?
I've read of people using the stock one but in my case it will not go in the hole...

Looks like it would not be too hard to enlarge the hole if the mounting screw holes line up to with the stock petcock. Looks like there is plenty of room between the screw holes to make a bit of extra space. Just do it very carefully Maybe use a hot knife or coarse round file?

Could you even go so far as to use the stock o-ring/seal thingame?

    Cheers R

    Just processing the pics.
The stock tap is very large and I think requires even more cut out of the fins.

I think mine is the standard IMS supplied tap.
No leakage that I can see/smell.
I give it a squirt of WD-40 when I do the other pivot points on the bike.

The inset shows the ding on the tap caused by the "squeaking" against the fins.

Hmmm, what's the back of your IMS tap like?
Does it even have the bit that rubbed on mine?

    O-ring material.

TA, I think you will find you need a Viton O-ring for use with petrol, nitrile O-rings will not last in that environment.
They should be readily available, they're commonly used in the hydraulic industry.

    Sorry for the dredge!

Is there a good place to get an IMS tank in NZ? I am going to ask Boyds this weekend.

Rosie got her big IMS tank for the Sherpa off Justgastanks.com - no problems.

i never buy local for the big stuff anymore not unless theres a sale, they will get from the same place except they have to chuck there mark up on it as well so its just as easy and cheaper to get certian things of the puta yourself.
example: OEM counter shaft for my bike was $470 something local, from USA identical part was $124us

shop around quite often its just easier and cheaper to do it yourself.
