The nice policeman thread

The police seem to have a bad rep on here, so thought I'd share a good experience instead.

Got stopped at a random WOF/Reg check point yesterday and turned out my bike reg had run out on the 15th (I thought it was the 25th

). All the guy said was "Make sure you get it sorted this week. Have a good day."

Top bloke! See, they're not all out to get ya

I had my first bad experience with a cop over the weekend. I nearly got arrested for a crime I didn't even commit, so much for a nice cop.

I'm guessing it wasn't a ginga cop in Rodney district that stopped you.

Its sad to say but the last nice cop I meet walked on all fours and could only really say grrrr & woof. Was a very friendly polite cop tho.

Well if you didn't go around steeling suits the cops might leave you alone.

Got pulled over on the Ramarama straights late last year by not just one, or two, but by FOUR bike cops.

I'd been cruising over the Bombay hill when I saw some bikes hopping on from the Bombay onramp - I'd actually turned around in my seat and had a look at them, looked like beemers, but since there were four of them, I figured t'was just some owners club ride enjoying the nice day. Get to the bottom of the hill and what's this? They're right behind - and one of them is right next to me, waving at me to pull over?

Bugger.

Pull over, and whip off the helmet and gloves. The cop asks me how fast I'd been going, and I replied that I'd been sitting bang on 109km/h since Mangitangi. He replies that they'd clocked me at the truly heinous speed of 117km/h on SH1, and that since I'd clearly seen them on the onramp when I turned around, why hadn't I slowed down? He seemed to like my honesty when I [...neglected to tell him that I hadn't realised that they were cops, and instead...] replied that I hadn't changed my speed on the matter of principle - namely that if I considered 109km/h on a deserted rural stretch of SH1 on a Sunday morning a when there were no visible cops a "safe and acceptable" speed, it would be positively ??? of me to consider 109km/h on a deserted rural stretch of SH1 on a Sunday morning to be unsafe and unacceptable merely when cops are suddenly visible.

So he wasn't fussed about that.

The real worry came when he saw my license - namely a 6R license on a Ninja. And not a 250 Ninja, but rather a Yoshi-clad 636 with freshly-shredded tyre edges (which were actually from a recent trackday, but he wouldn't have known that).

Luckily for me, he didn't appear to want to give me a ticket, and said he didn't had his ticket book on him. He then declined the offer of his mates' (who seemed very keen to ensure I got hit for everything) ticket books, and took down my details to "send it in the mail". Which he never did.

And two months later I was on my full. (And rather ironically, just a couple of months later, went from over 130hp down to 35hp)

the police have always been nice to me. everytime i've been stopped or needed help even.
always been cool about it. If you respect them they will respect you. thats been my experience.

They even got my push bike back, that no one cares about ( which was rather flash and expensive). my workmate stole it. and when i went to lay a complain. the guy at the station didnt give a rats ass. but he wasnt a police officer. was just some admin.
then 3 months later. the officer came across my file. apologised to me its taken so long. arrested the guy i worked with. took him to court. got my money back. apologised so many times for the other dickhead not taking care with my file, even though he didnt have to, and was nothing to do with him. and he took it up with the admin guy's boss. i will not forget that. That officer was what the police is really about!

i guess if you're on the receiving side of the force. you will hate them. but they're just doing their job. i got pulled over. got a ticket. was thinking many things id like to say to him. but then he was just a cool dude. so i didnt really feel bad after it.

motorcycle cop did a U-turn on Fanshawe street and followed me all the way across the Harbour bridge on Saturday. I think he just wanted to make sure I didn't fall off

. thought that was very nice of him.
