    Newmarket Viaduct, 4-5 Sept 2010

Planning to go anywhere in Auckland that weekend.....dont bother

On the weekend of 4th and 5th September we will be closing the southbound carriageway of SH1 in the vicinity of the Newmarket viaduct to carry out the necessary works to enable us to open the new southbound bridge by Monday 6th September. To avoid major disruption on the surrounding arterial road network it is essential to avoid driving anywhere in Auckland during the weekend unless absolutely essential.

Due to the enormous task of getting our message across to the whole of Auckland and the surrounding areas, we are requesting that everyone forward this HTML email to as many people as possible.

I ask you to forward this email to any schools, sports clubs, etc in order to get our message across.

Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your assistance

Yeah, I got one of those emails from my Head of dept at one of my schools and I was thinking "what the...???" but then realised its probably quite a good way of getting info like that out to the general public.

I wondered if this was a really brilliant hoax for a moment... but it seems not:

I doubt any haoxers would be sufficiently skilled, bothered and organised to hack the official website as well, so I'm taking it as a great day to have a ride North!

This is no hoax I work for one of the design firms and this is the best way.

80,000 vehicles are going to have to find another way, and don't bother shopping in Newmarket

We have heaps of photo's but not sure of video, they made a doco for staff when we finished the northern gateway toll road and I'm sure they'll do the same for Newmarket. I'll ask the guy's at work if we have anything. Just did a search on youtube and found this

There is meant to be a concert, a netball game and several other events happening that weekend. Getting out of dodge city would be a great plan.

I wonder how they will demolish the existing section?

Reverse of the new bridge, they are going to cut the bridge up into sections then lower them down to be recycled. This is the first time this has ever been tried so it's going to be intresting.

    Dang!
That will be interesting for anyone underneath... and will need to be done before starting the new half.
