    KTM issues

Well the bike that put a smile on my dial took it away just as quick
I had just finished rebuilding the rear end (new swing arm bearings, link bearing(CHRIST$$$),new sprockets chain and tyres etc and was taking her for her first ride, out to Whanga pub of course.
This was going to be her last ride before her 5000km service, (she didn't make it).
Ride out there was awesome , ride back was great to until I came over the bridge at the Stratford cemetery. Coming off the bridge in 3rd gear feedin it to her there was a bigger vibration than normal coming from the engine(ie this LC4 doesn't vibrate at all, enter tui ad).
I pressed on only a few K's to home and parked her in the shed.
That night I thought I'd do some reading on the net, oh god horror set in and I went to bed
I thought I'd spark her up next morning maybe it went away over night(another TUI ad).
She sparked up first pop as always and sat there going (enter bad noises) I shut her down and looked for KTM dealers with good LC4 mechanic's, chucked her on the back of the truck with the BMW(recall service) and headed to Hamilton.
Dropped her off and explained the noises and were I thought it was coming from, do you want me to start it up I asked,no no I know exactly what it is was the reply, dont worry he said it's nothing money cant fix.
So I get a phone call a few days later, shes done her main gearbox shaft bearing mate she has to come to bits, I said go ahead mate shes no good to me like she is.
I went up to see her the other day as we are waiting on gaskets etc and there she was laid bare in a fish bin poor thing, he showed me the bearing(no cage but all balls still there), all the cage was sitting stuck to the magnetic sump plug so that did its job.
Now its just a waiting game

    Oh deary me.....

Ouch mate, that is really bad news...sorry to hear it...
I feel that there isn't gonna be much change out of a small fortune for that one...
Is Boyds doing it for you then?
I hope it isn't a contagious disease with the LC4.....

It was contagious from 98-2002 I think, yeah its a fortnights pay minimum so theres been a little bit of overtime been doneIf Boyds is opposite the BMW dealer in Hamilton it must be there, When I dropped it off it was like losing a close friend( and we'd only been together for alittle while).

    Bugger!

Which bearing was it exactly? The ball bearing behind the clutch was replaced with a roller bearing, ex-factory 2003-on or as a retrofit/warranty up to 2002. That one, or something else?
    Cheers,
    Colin

It was definitely a bearing in the clutch gearbox area(LH side) I found a few photos on the net that looked exactly the same(other poor buggers like me) mine still had its balls but no cage there's 3 gears in line I think and it was in the middle I think, not sure , I couldn't look at her for too long it was too heart breaking and wallet of course.
