Last century I was all set to ride to Wanganui for the Boxing Day races. Had childcare all sorted, warmed the bike up, pulled clutch in and the cable snapped.

Was not going to miss out so got the babysitter to drop me off at the highway so I could hitch a ride.
First ride was in a car and the dude freaked me out so much I asked him to let me out at Taupo.
Put my thumb out and a dude on a Harley gave me a lift all the way to Wangas. Was the most terrifying pillion ride I've ever had! We'd come up behind traffic, he'd open the throttle and the bike made a huge noise but not much acceleration. We got part way past a car then there was oncoming traffic. All I could do was close my eyes and hope we made it.
Down the Paraparas everything was scraping through every corner. The foot boards were folding up and I was shitting myself.
Got to Wangas and I said thank you to the guy and went and found my friends who were meeting me there. Racing went well and we went to a pub for dinner after.

Mate got into a fight over a game of pool and ended up with some broken ribs so I ended up riding his bike home with him on the bitch seat.
Now days if I saw someone hitching with full bike gear I would probably give them a lift.
