It's near Nelson Creek, down Lake Brunner way.
Access it off Nelson Creek Rd, but not signposted. The lake is on Mapsource, but not the road, so a bit of local knowledge helps. Otherwise, download the route from Ryans's ADV routes website. The track starts at Nelson Creek and ends down by Lake Haupiri, but access to Lake Hochstetter is down a side track off main forestry road.
I was there 2 days ago and there was no beach, lake so full it was up over the grass verges.

You have far to much spare time froggyman

I couldn't see it on the advroutes website. I might have to have a look at work instead of waiting for it to download here. I did try to find it once before in the 4wd, endedn up scratching shit out of the paintwork, busting mirrors and breaking the aerial.

Not far enough. 125km to a tank (8 litre) before I got really nervous, as this was eating well into the miserable 2 litre reserve, and was averaging 16.5 km per litre.
Never ran out, but had to plan fuel stops carefully, and not detour in fear of running out. I carried spare gas on 2 legs of my journey, just in an oil can in my backpack. Actually, I did scrounge some gas from a farmer near Fairlie after going up through the Hakataramea, and running on fumes near the end.
Didn't take my 13 litre tank south, as this bike is the "new" bike I was collecting. Rules about fuel containers on aircraft etc, so gave that a miss.
    Working on a RR soon.....

    Goodday JC,

Bike is back home minus a left side peg, casing and a bit less paint, thanks for your offer of help today. Mrs C does a great curry by the way!

Sorry - just saw the Hori bay incident - excellent stuff Woodman. I had to drag my plastic fantastic down a hill as steep as that & had minimal damage. KLR's rock baby

Just watching the 'Rivers' programme on telly & am def going into the Clarence weekend after next. Weather permitting. I will research some RRs to see what to expect.
I have to admit I was pretty chuffed to get across those rivers last weekend with my rear tyre. Hopefully they won't be too deep in the Clarence.

Put new bars on today and she is good as new. Actually i quite enjoyed coming back over the wangamoas with the bars sort of drooping down on each side. felt kinda cool.

I'm going to skip Greymouth and try the Clarence too.
No deep crossings. Nice round river rocks but only 1 or 2 could be termed "river crossings". The rest are more fords that happen to be in rivers. Nice and shallow.
