Coming over in Feb, want bike

Hi!

my wife an I are coming over in february, we think it'd be fun to hire bikes but put off by the price! ( 200Nz a day?!) a car is sooo much cheaper..

We are in town visiting her parents - but wanna scoot off, and she shows me round the bays etc..

I have full international license and a Hornet 600 at home ( Hong Kong - actually I'm a brit, but it's a looooong story

what are my options? any chance someone has a spare bike around that time?

Thats a generous offer! scouse - it would probably have to be the speed triple as I have been lusting after that for a while...

I prob would love to buy one here- but then I'd have to sell my hornet which has a top box on and a pretty big pillion seat.... ( I dont get enough riding in - just the daily commute ride to beach for swim few mornings a week and odd weekend spin)

If I get it right -

ie buy the tickets and hire the camper van - we'd land in Auckland and drive stopping here and there -

we'd spend a few days in wellington - visiting relly's

and thats where a bit of exploration and freedom would be handy!

actually I'd be keen to ride all the way - but not sure about the missus, or the luggage!

cant believe how much bikes are to hire, I did have a quick look on the classifieds here - seems can buy something for 1000 - but not sure on the condition- saw some even cheaper - a GN250.

how does insurance work there - In Hong Kong you must insure the vehicle - but then any one can drive.. think in Australia was included in the Vehicle registration? Is NZ similiar?

ok it's a long shot...

the buythebikeback place is cool - but I'm not coming for long enough to make it worthwhile,,

anyways I see your point a S3 is a bit nice...

mind you if you think about it people tend to look after bikes better than cars, I nean your more committed really,,

or do you have a big crime problem over there?

anyways interested in learning more about NZ,

where should we go - assuming we have a bike around wellington?
