There by the Grace of God go I?

Please view the use of GOD in the title as a generic higher power, for I dont want this one in the Scottish thread

Actually I feel kind of safe tonight, as the biggest defender of the freedom from religion on the forum is in a place that he cant do much about what I am posting

I just want to ask you all to take a moment, or 5 in the next little while to make sure that everyone you care about knows you care about them. Thank the people that have helped you, help people that you can.

Our time on this earth is short, and precious, make sure you have no regrets.

    That's all.

    Waddaya mean "That's all"?
    That's enough...isn't it?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Interesting. I've never seen it put that way.
Is freedom from religion a part of religious freedom? Hmm.

    Similar approach to mine, Mom.
If someone means something to me nowadays, I tell them.
No point waiting till they're in a pine box at the front of a funeral chapel.

    Hmmm. What a profound statement.

I had a friend of mine that had the opportunity to spin the wheel on Lotto a couple of weeks ago.She won a rather handsome weekly payout for 3 years. 4 days later she diagnosed with Cancer.
Her response to this was "by the time i get all the money i will be dead, how unlucky can ya get, i could do with that dosh"

We have such a short time on this earth we need to appreciate our friends, our families and our passions way more than we do.

    Very well said Mom!

Death is gaining in popularity among people of my age, a trend in which I am trying to avoid participation!

I agree with Mom. Just receiving a message like this can make a huge difference to a person's outlook on life. I received this out of the blue from a son last week:

'Hey Dad, How's it goin'? This may seem a little strange but I just wanted to thank you for bein a great dad and always bein there when I needed u. And I hope I can be as good for my kids. And I hope u know I appreciate and love you.'

    Really made my day!

Having been through a life-changing experience recently, I keenly agree and want you and Mark to know how much I appreciated your visits and messages during the hard bits.

I view every day now as a gift and make sure everyone knows I appreciate them.

Fourteen odd years ago, I buried my best friend after a long, hard fought battle with breast cancer, she was not 40. That made me mortal, and I have really tried hard in the years since to practise what I preach. I lost my Mom a couple of months ago, it devastated me, but she knew how much I loved her right to the end.

From time to time things happen to give us a jolt into just how precious life is, and how quickly and unexpectanly your number can come up. Lets just say I had a bit of a reminder on the weekend about how we should spend more time counting our blessings than worrying about the future.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Maybe that saying fits too mom

I'm not afraid of death, I just don't want to be there when it happens
