Took my mates 1200 out prior to riding the 883, yep it had more power, and probably slightly smoother. Forward controls which I didn't really like, hey but who knows, it might grow on me. The 883's mid controls felt much better for me. The feet forward thing seems to put a fair amount of pressure on my lower back. The mid controls are more comfortable for me. + the 1200 is a bit out of my price range, even the 883 is stretching it.
I don't care too much about the power, very rarely pillion anyone. Hell, I have been happy with the power on the DR. Wouldn't do more than 350-400ks in a day and that would be a rare day for me these days. The bigger concern would be the peanut tank.
It would be my every day bike. Work and back, and the odd ride on the weekend.
the good news about H-D is that you can bolt stuff on or off them pretty easily.

All the bikes I learned on and owned in the early days were like that, sinfull...although I have to say none of them did actually throw a rod. Me mate's bike did though - on Ruapuna one day...spread oil all over the entry into the S's...made for an interesting day after that.

Let's face it, whatever bike you ride, there's always some expert will tell you that it's crap. It's good to get sensible advice, but at the end of the day It's your money and your choice, so ride what you want and enjoy it. If you want to spray it flourescent pink and have a leopard skin seat as well, that's fine too!![]()
I like naked bikes. All it comes down to. Less than a second to take the screen off the Roadie and I'm out in it, dog out the car window style.
Haven't researched it - Is the glide fitted with the 103 cube engine? There is a press bike doing the rounds I'll make sure I get a fang on it then too.
I unashamedly like the modern sports bikes. This is because I spent many hours all those years ago trying to develop something a bit like what we get to ride today. I like the technology - in frame and handling as well as in the engine department. The contrast with what I used to ride is so very obvious. I just love the level of development that has been achieved.
Having said that, it doesn't mean that I dislike other types of bike. I ride with people who have every sort of bike under the sun. Their choice is their choice, not mine. And my choice is mine, not theirs. Whatever rocks your boat...no point in getting hung up on what somebody else rides.

Yes dave the glide has the 103 engine I did 500km's on the demo one bloody awesome more people need to ride them to see how good they are.
This is a classic! A girl with a 650 DR is reviewing a Sportster 883... First of all, u have to get the difference between a tractor and a bike. Than u have to hide u'r red-neck and try to ride a bike as a bike not a tractor. But, in the end, a trailer-trash is unable to go past it's urge to judge any bike as a tractor.
U go girl!
This ain't an 883 but its sporty based. Read the sellers description.
Sportsters been around a long time. Longer than the knockers I think
