    From the Road User Rule
7.12 Safety helmets for all terrain vehicles, motorcycles, and mopeds
    (1) A person must not drive or ride on an all terrain vehicle, on a motorcycle, in a sidecar, or on a moped on a road unless the person is wearing a safety helmet of an approved standard that is securely fastened.

    (8) A person is not in breach of subclause (1) if the person proves that at the time of the commission of the alleged breach he or she was an adherent of the Sikh religion.
    and
7.15 Driver or passenger must produce helmet for inspection
A driver or passenger of an all terrain vehicle, a motorcycle, or a moped on any road who is wearing a safety helmet must immediately produce the helmet for inspection on the demand of an enforcement officer, and must, if so required, hand it to the enforcement officer for that purpose.
A new one on me. Wonder if I can try his helmet on as a swapsy ?

It was Northgate somewhat after 8.00AM. They were mainly only stopping bikes heading out of town. Made an exception for me apparently.

They were there again/still in the afternoon.

A sergeant and two workers to stop four bikes?

Kevin's offsider thought my jacket was a bit light for riding gear and made the comment that since I owned better gear I should have been wearing it.

As has been discussed elsewhere on KB though, riding a moped in leather or BMW touring gear looks odd.

It's also overkill. Most decent pushies are easily capable of maintaining 30 to 50km/hr but they aren't persecuted for wearing "light" gear.

Indeed you can - but IIRC, the offence is "failing to display licence label" - so even though you've paid your fee, you could still be done.[/QUOTE]

Yep,but if ya cunning instead of waiting for label to arrive in post, you rock into NZ Post or VTNZ etc and ask for replacement label, and voila all legal(which it was).

Did this last week, did relicense online on Thursday night, went into post shop Friday morning and new label reprinted at no cost,no receipt of purchase needed.

It's all good. A core tenet of the Sikh religion is reincarnation.

Don't the Indian cricketers wear a helmet when facing the fast bowlers?Especially if they're a bowler not batsman.

Pretty thin on the ground this neck of the woods and lower Hawkes Bay.

Got owned by a couple of L plated scooters in Havelock North today who should've had the finger a waved at them, preached at and leafleted. Bastards. Mind it looked like they were having a ball judging by the smiles on their faces as they past to left and right of me in formation fashion. Obviously been doing a bit of off roading down at the Tuki Tuk. Quite jealous I was-oh to be in my teens again.

Landing in a sodden paddock does wonders for the back. I really wanted to come back as a pubic lice. Sadly that wasn't to be.

I do have a issue with turban wearing people getting a helmet exemption on the grounds of religion - tough shit this is NZ, helmets are law, religion is a personal choice.
FFS if his worship Brian Tamaki decides that his male church members should be allowed to take a 13 year old as a wife on religious grounds will they get a exception?
    I totally agree.
Religious freedom is something that is given because we are tolerant of others' abnormal desires, obsessions, delusions.
Laws like this encourage religious expression / adherence. Encouraging such behaviour is simply dumb!
Surely we can see that. Looking for examples of strife born of and borne by religion would be like trying to drink from a fire hose.
    Definitely not to be encouraged.
Atheism and Religion are but two sides of the same coin.
One prefers to use its head, while the other relies on tales.

There aren't any Sikh's in the national side at the moment. If there were they wouldn't wear a helmet. They simply aren't allowed to.

I think Sikhs make up less the 2% of the population in India. Christianity has a bigger presence.

There's at least one team member seems to wear a mini turban at all times. Sort of like a black stocking on his head. His helmet might just need to be a size or two bigger?

We have a young lady from the Punjab at work, I'll try to remember to ask her.
