Yeah, kind of agree, far too much yap for a ride that only takes a couple of hours.

Last weeks ride to Greta was more like what I would consider a 'normal' wed night ride, a destination decided and everybody heading in the same direction by the same route.

All this discussion and people heading in different directions makes my feeble little brain hurt, I just want to join the bunch and follow the person in front without having to think about which group I've ended up riding with.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

Lol you lot are just so fun. Actually i was offering a sugestion was all. But thats all good Hornet maybe you could come up with a new alternative route or destination for next week. It seems to be that if a decent route is not half planned you all bitch and moan about overpriced drinks, no or crap food, flat streight roads, etc. Just turning up at BK and thinkin it can be done there and then is stupid. We did greta last week eh but since they resealed a big part of it yesterday you prob would give it a miss but if noone checked or called ahead and we went there this week you would all say its not orginised enough...

    Sigh...

It's disappointing watching all the bitching that's been going on this year. What scares me is that this seemed to work better when shy little me was in charge.

We've lost some destinations, which doesn't help at all, but we had a tried and true system developed over the last 3 years and it just seems to have been forgotten.

First of all, regroups are important, not only to ensure that everyone gets there, but it makes it feel like a group ride. A lot of people have said they haven't felt like group rides lately. In saying that, I realize those at the front of the group get frustrated waiting around with the huge groups that have been turning up. One way to deal with it would be to have a "middleman". Once the middleman arrives at the regroup, the front half carries on and the middleman waits for tail end to carry on. Of course this effectively divides the group in 2 and requires someone with half a brain to play middleman. I dunno, may not work too well.

As for routes Maybe we need to return to the system we had last year whereby we had half a dozen standard routes and rotated, with something a bit different now and then. Of course the earthquake has dealt to a couple of our routes, the most contentious being duvauchelles.

What is wrong with little river pub? It's ideal because it means those less inspired can stop there while rest of us carry on to duvauchelles/akaroa/wherever and back to join them. I know some people have mentioned not liking little river pub but I've never had a problem there.

In the end it's pretty simple: if we're not taking the same route to the same destination then we're not part of the same group are we

Yep, you left a void that I thought had been filled at the start of the season, hence my earlier comment. I simply asking the question.

R1Madness, I also do not think that it is appropriate for a self promoting Motorcycle Shop owner [it is in all of your posts] to start directing the ride, unless the said person / business is going to sponsor the food and drinks at the end??

But that is just my opinion - not bitching.

Also remember that in the past there was always a ride going to Duvauchelles as an alternative so you could choose either the standard ride wherever it went or the Duva ride.

this is my thoughts as well , i rock up see where its going. If i don't like it . i do my own thing. mostly over the hill. with out someone telling me what to do, or how to ride. I always stop for a beer at one of three pubs, then go home, DONE i"ve had my bike fix for the week.
unless there corners involved i wont go, as i put in around 600km a week in a cage for work.

So is the WNR ride to Akaroa?

It sounded the most popular, just different ways to get there and where to stop and eat.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

The ride has got too big, some people want a committee, some people want a chilled out ride where we sort of make it up as we go, some people dont like some people, some people dont like where we go, some people dont like how we get there, some people dont like how others are riding.

Best I can do is run a ride that caters to the majority and the small percentage of people who want to do something a bit different are welcome to do so, just make sure you come tell me before the "breifing", so I can tell people and they wont end up following you and getting lost.

phoenix, I've tried splitting the ride into 2, didnt work out really...

Neither was your pathetic comment....in the first place.

When Tristan, Ryan and I ( yes hornet a founding rider) started this we did so wanting to find a place to make friends and have a ride. Sadly shit has happened which made me not want to ride, most of it the crap on this site and thread ( I only come on this site to check this thread..)

I miss the easiness the ride used to have. Phoenix has always stated the general rules. It seams that a few fuckwits have forgotten why this ride exists- to share in a passion we are all have, enjoy a group ride and enjoy the company. Its disappointing Hornet to get on this thread (was thinking I might try and make this one as I hear the last one was good) and see you taking about anarchy without giving r1 a chance (who was willing to put some effort in). Now Phoenix tells me you are a nice guy and i do remember meeting you when you did ride a hornet but right now I think you are a apart of the problem.

Maybe I will come along in the new year sometime have a good ride all those who go this week.

Well – congratulations, this is more or less what I suggested weeks ago. Once any group gets beyond a certain size, it’s quite normal for dissent and disorder to ensue.

There are two distinct types of people turning up at BK and both have quite different expectations. The first subgroup I would describe as: “People into slow synchronous pootling off to…(Pubs, Caf้s etc). For brevity I refer to this subgroup as “PISSPOTs”. The second subgroup I would describe as: Racy, anarchic, troublesome boys and girls. For brevity I refer to this subgroup as: “RATBAGs”.

Since the beginning of time these types of groups have always been at loggerheads. As long as the overall turnout is, say, 30 or more bikes, I think the best overall solution is to get a divorce and split into WNR-P and WNR-R rides.

I suggest that the WNR-R subgroup should start its own forum and meet at McDonalds Sydenham before f*cking off over Dyers pass or wherever else the rats want to go…

No offence intended to anyone - just a bit of common sense wrapped up with a bit of fun

Now that the Wednesday night ride and evolved into something entirely different than what it was when it started, why not start a completely new ride, one that caters to the people that dont like what the WNR has become?
