    Nelson forrest access

    Hi all,

Mrs Topo rang the people giving out the pernits to ride in the hira (and other areas) this avo. She was told that due to idiots riding without permits, riding gear and even carrying rifles with them there will be no permits issued in the forseable future and anyone caught will be prosecuted.

i assume this does not include central rd and the other public access roads but

It does sound a bit weird.
I've never seen anyone riding without gear apart from one guy without a helmet but he had earmuffs on.

    Rifles?

Nelson forest access... I just rang and spoke to the very nice lady on reception. She is emailing the application forms out to me. I forgot to ask whether it would be approved! however she did say the bike had to be inspected first, and all the info was on the forms.

Their website has progressed to a placeholder page with their contact details: actionforest.co.nz

Just talked to the guys at Morleys and they say you just need a "wof" from a bike shop to say the bike is not going to spontaneously explode and you're good.
They reckon the scare tactics are all garbage.

I'll second that - bikeless and needing some mates for a beer.

The tethered kill switch has the $1.95 switch in it, the existing kill switch line has a set of bullet connectors on the live wire and when I want the tethered kill in, I just unplug them and join the tethered one in.

    Works nicely.

Found a nice short little side track up the Maungatapu that had a couple of mud holes, water ruts and everything

Lucky I had good tyres or it could have ended in tears
