Interesting the difference in riding styles for the types of bikes ,k100 was fast into the turn ahead of the s10 ,big wide power slide with knee on the ground and slightly behind on exit as opposed to the s10's slower tighter line ,they lapped at the same speed though .
This is one that didnt quite work out ,first pic he's saying "oh shit" second pic he's running back to pick the beast up after an epic slide down the beach.

Not your KLR - the DR wasn't close to you

The S10 wasn't first built until 89 so not quite sure how he ended up in the Pre 86 class. Still the K100 vs S10 was probably the most exciting (even) battle or the day.

Geddoff - the S10 has a way nicer sound than the K100.

Righty some of my pics. Nordies advise seems to have paid off - pretty happy for a first time attempt. Got way more and heaps higher res if anybody wants them. I've put the pics into folders in Photobucket so click the pics below for more. Have a look at some of the Warewolf and Woodman pics for rear wheel look up and sliding both wheels (sand being pushed out by both wheels).

Firstly Mr #12 - cleaned up big time. Fastest guy on sand in NZ at the moment apparently. Unique cornering style - lock up the rear and get hard on the front from about 100m out, chuck in down about 3 gears during the slide, hopefully be good speed to comfortably tip in about level with the apex, handful of throttle and dump the clutch just before the apex and hang on power sliding out. Wheelie the first 1/3rd of the back straight about 1/2 the time - he was so far out in front.

I was looking at my gearing chart, theoretical max was 190km/h at redline with that tyre. So on the firm surface there was approx 30km/h of wheelspin at 155km/h and a lot more on the soft stuff.

Peak power is 1500rpm below redline so taller gearing may have increased top speed, since the faster I went the less power the engine was producing. Not by that much as the torque curve is pretty flat, but changing sprockets would definitely be worth trying next time.
    Cheers,
    Colin
