My fist on his window woke him up and scared the crap out of him, but neither of us were hurt.

And because he was in a vehicle with all the windows wound up and quite probably his stereo on, and because I was beside him and my horn was well below him and on the other side of my bike the odds are he wouldn't have heard my horn. Even if he had, his immediate reaction would probably have been to look in his rear vision mirror when I wanted him to IMMEDIATELY stop what he was doing, not look around and then wonder what the bump was as he hit me. I didn't have time to fuck around and be polite and because I hate crashing I made the (correct) decision to attract his attention immediately in a way that left him in no doubt that I was beside him and about to be under him.

And maybe it would be a good idea if more car drivers learned that motorcyclists are not people to fuck with. I get sick of the softcock attitude where we have to be constantly apologising for riding bikes and coming second to every other road user, if people want to put me in danger then they can't expect me to wring my hands and whimper.
Hallelujah to that - and perhaps a bit of fear would go a long way to making us more visible. Sometimes drivers dont see us (even though they have looked at us) because they dont percieve us as a threat, and their mind blocks us out of their vision.

That's exactly my argument. I fail to see how anyone with two functioning eyes is unable to see an object 1.5m high by about 1 m wide with a bloody great light in the middle of it, especially something that is moving. I can see my letterbox at the end of my driveway as clear as a bell and it's 100m away and dark blue with no lights.

Car drivers only don't "see" us because they neither see us as a threat or as something worth protecting. I bet Mary Pajero would be able to see a precious little baby on a bicycle more easily than a dirty old biker when she pulls out.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

I started riding in March of last year and have recently got myself a second hand POV1 helmet camera. I've got it set to record constantly and, whenever 'something' happens, I tag the clip and it's saved. Otherwise the recording just loops. So you only save what you need to.

Now, when someone cuts me off or does something very stupid, I'll read back their license plate number to the microphone and tag the footage. Then, rather than being aggressive to the driver (though an angry honk and a non-offensive gesture gets passed) I just tap my camera on my lid to let the driver know they've been caught.

I figure the camera saves my arse in the case of an accident as I'm unlikely the one responsible for it, and I have the footage to prove it.

(I also tag any awesomeness I perform which is a sometimes thing )

And for Dickhead of the Year...27th of December 2010

A woman with no driver's licence in an unregistered and unwarranted car with three passengers. She pulls out of a T-intersection then stops cold and one of the riders in our group smashes into her and is now in hospital with serious injuries.

She should go to jail and I hope she does!

Sorry to hear this mate. Best wishes to the injured rider. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Also hope justice serves in this case - sounds like the woman is in for serious consequences.
