Not sure if it`s been on KB, but apparently police are looking at 2 point cameras. Were they calculate your speed between two points (Cameras)

So observation and late on the brakes won`t save ya!

Iris scanning devices have enough trouble working at 50cm range at 0km/h. Let alone at 100km/h+, at 5 metre+ range through two windscreens and maybe a helmet.

Of course in the USA you do get rape-scanned by roving vans on urban streets.

+1. That's bullocks. No way can you do remote scanning of a motorcyclist's eye ball while travelling at speed.

Speed cameras are not about saving lives - they are about forcing people to obey the law ...

I gather that some of the fixed speed cameras have sensing wires under the road ... and some bikes do not have enough metal or weigh (don't ask me, I'm no expert) to trip them off ... also, if you know where they are you can ride around them, usually on the far left of the road ...

    Does that work through shades?

Yeah, got a letter the other day saying I was photographed doing 85 in an 80 zone along the side of Lake Rotoiti. I've already written in to ask for the photograph, at worst it'll make a great avatar for here!

Then I will write and suggest the message they are giving motorcyclists may be contaray to their participation in the motorcycle safety program that has just started, as it must be safer for a motorcyclist to be doing 85 in an 80 zone with the rider constantly watching for road irregularities, other traffic, and pedestrians (especially children playing beside and crossing this stretch of road through a well frequented holiday spot) than riding along at 80 with their eyes glued to their speedo in order to stay within the advised tolerance level.

I also feel that a speed of 85 in an 80 zone will most probably not contribute to a crash nor any substantial increase in the chances of fatality in the event of a crash as there is only 12% more kinetic energy involved and the motorcycle is being ridden well within its performance envelope. The speed that kills is excessive speed where the vehicle is close to or outside its performance and roadholding parameters.
