I also note you neglect to mention you were forced into a night of hanging curtains also.

I really should have taken a pic of that.

I'm in for a SIIOTN, depending on time, maybe around the MMMMMM ride time, if you put one together again this year. I'd love to do that Waikerimoana rd again and the Motu gorge

    :
Yep MMMMM 2011 will be happening, be great to have a posse from the south up for that.
However if you wanted to organise a SIIOTN for summer I could probably organise a couple of days of more adventurous riding in this area for the group. Most of the harder tracks around here are just too snotty in the winter.

It would be rude not to take them through 42nd, Fishers, Old Whangamomona too, especially if it's in winter

    Dusty Butt 2011

    Hello again everybody.....
Due to the wonders of modern technology..... and T.D.C.'s free WIFI at the local library, I have another instalment

    Day 1
Due to the fact CooneyR and helpers had put together another D.B.1000 down south, me, MrsJ and the boy (now named Piglett ) headed south on the thursday before the big event.
We met some other reprobates (except you UmoPom, your far to sensible to be a reprobate ) at St Arnaud for a latte, essential for tackling the wilds of Rainbow station.

Suitably prepared the group saddled up and made tracks for Rainbow station and some not very nice looking cloud,
Not far in and we came to the first ford, this used to have a concrete base last year musta had a bit of rain.

    MrsJ gets wet feet

    Paying the toll

A quick break at Lake Tennyson

then it was into Hanmer to replenish caffiene levels and we all went our seperate ways.
The Jatz's headed for TimG's and a nice meal and soft bed, cheers Tim and Debs

    Day 2
The day got of to a shakey start with a quake in the wee small hours of the morning But it was soon gunna get better.
MattsDakar had put together a ride through the Orari gorge on the way to Fairlie.
The 3 of us left TimG's and headed to Ashburton to meet up with the rest of the crew. MrsJ and piglett bailed on this ride, but there was plenty of takers without them.

Here we are at the Orari river

A nice alternative to taking the seal is to ride straight up the river bed

    Into the hills we headed

And onto the top of the hills

The clouds closed in a bit

I didn't get many more pics as I was to busy rideing

Right... I'll try again Don't you hate it when you spend ages writing a post and it disapears

    Anyway...
Day3 and the official D.B start
The 3 of us left the Gladstone pub at about 6:30 and after a bit of mucking around ( I should learn to use a gps properly) we found our way onto the official route, following some others tracks in the gravel and mud.
    We rode some farm tracks

    And through some forestry

And some rivers that had a few hidden surprises for some

    And some more farm tracks

And emerged at Kurow where we fuelled up the bikes and bodies, and chatted to other D.B.ers
Then the decision was made to tackle the "Challenge Section"
After some more nav errors we found our way back onto the route and went up the "Zig Zag", kida like riding up a steep riverbed

    Over the top

And down the other side, go piglett go

More up hill and down dale followed , passing and being passed by other riders. Dunno what the story is here 'cause it's not Ida Valley

Accross the top on Geddes road, and that scree is a p.i.t.a to ride on

Coming down and MrsJ had her first off, she did really well getting this far through some quite challenging riding. Piglett was on the job to look after his mum, leaving me free to take photos

We got off the challenge section and fuel was becoming an issue for me so we bailed to Omakau, which was closed By this stage I was well through my reserve, so emptied my 2l reserve reserve into the tank and gapped it for Alexandra campground and a cold beer or 4

    Day 4

Another earlyish start and we were away towards Roxbourgh. I really do like rideing in the early morning, especially through Central Otago, somthing about the light

Rode through some other roads including Beaumont track heading for Lawrence and breakfast. It really was a sight seeinga sea of bikes parked outside the servo waiting for it to open, no pic of it though

Then it was over the Dunstan rd.
    It was slippery in places

We caught up with some other riders there who were having fuel issues, so gave them 3 of our 4 litres of reserve reserve and made our way to Moa creek via the Old Dunstan rd.

By this stage we had hooke dup with XF650 who had a wee fuel stash at Poolburn, Rumor had it the Omakau servo was running out of fuel which is where we should have gone.
Anyway... we got to Poolburn with some others and XF650 organized some more fuel for everybody top bloke

After getting 5l each for the 3 of us we hooked up with a bigger group for the ride over Omarama saddle.
River crossing after river crossing followed, some more succesfull....

    than others....

Well done EddieB for getting his fully loaded 950 through the crossings and over the saddle without laying it down mammoth effort. Anyway we all made it to Omarama for more fuel and food, EddieB and Crim decided to stay in Omarama as they were done for the day while the rest of us bailed for Fairlie.
Stunning end to another days riding, cruising around Lake Tekapo and beside the canal with JezzaNz, Jezza

Left Jezza in Tekapo and we rode over Burkes pass to Fairlie.....Magic

    Day 5

After a proper breaky in Fairlie, MrsJ was kindof sick of a quick coffee and a muesli bar by this stage., we headed back over Burkes pass to to meet up with EddieB and Crim for a ride through Black Forest station, which we missed the day before.
We had a bit of a wait there while someone played with thier bike in Tekapo.
    Waiting..... Waiting.....

EVENTUALLY.... we got under way down Haldon rd

Wishing I had the BIG for this section. Stopped to ask the farmer if the combination had been changed, I'd hater to ride all the way through and have to turn around and come back.
Anyway..... we had some minor technical issues again

Glad I threw some spare nuts and bolts into the tool kit at this stage
    At the top

Got to the Benmore dam and EddieB split off heading for Queenstown and Crim had to get home to Chch which left the 3 of us to gently ride over Hakataramea and Mackenzie passes

Beers and Greaseys in Fairlie.....life is good

    Day6
Boring day today.....Obviously time to go home

I did have plans of doing Lees valley/Okuku pass but was out voted
So I picked up a bigger front sprocket in Geraldine, I was really sick of stopping at every gas station by this stage. A quick stop to see XF650 in Ashvegas to change sprockets and it was a mind and butt numbing pootle up SH1 and onto the Lewis pass. Rideing into Culverden was like rideing into a hair dryer, and we were all feeling a bit over it. time for a sleep and a bit of shade.

The only "issue" we had for the whole trip, just before Glenn Wye (?) station

Thats about it for now...... hope you enjoyed

If I've left anything out, feel free to comment/add , but keep it clean, I think my mother reads this too

Nice pics Jatz ,you're probably just as well to have missed Lees valley ,When we went in there on monday the ford would have been seat height and moving quite fast so we decided it would be nice to ride back out the valley and round the tarmac .
