It's as good a theory as anything Ring can come up with

Ahhh but are you game to do it holding Shrub's little Jesus in your hand? (perhaps a good bye cruel world moment coming up)

I shall purchase a plastic Jesus today.

I figure when he starts to wobble I should grab my glass of wine to avoid spillage.

I have noticed a number of frequent 'King Tides' in my glass of wine lately - and the period between high and low wine tides is very short - could this be a sign of impending doom?

I'm an atheist, but I do love some Johnny Cash.

One of my friends and I (both lapsed catholics) always buy each other stupid religious gifts. I have a plastic Jesus too: last seen blu-tacked to the top of my computer monitor at work.

computer monitor (24 inch widescreen HD ) took a bit of a header I believe

How much do you want? Bring your own shovel and help yourself to as much as you want, perhaps mr ring might like to bring his shovel and do some digging too, would be far more helpful than what he's doing at the moment.

The only thing the MM has in his favour, in my eyes and not that I don't believe he could be right, is that the tides, ya know, that liquidy stuff that cover 7/10ths of the planets surface, you may have noticed it and call it water that moves to and from the beach, are heavily influenced, if not fully influenced by the moon. Oddly enough, a scientific fact... they even have Almanacs that predict future tides ...

That alone gives credence to his theories and with the recent "sun man" getting one over the meteorologists with his long range forecasts (sub derived ), it kinda stands to reason that some, if not most of our weather is controlled planetary bodies...

Interesting reading last night about how the moon does create a "land tide" also, but that the magnitude and frequency of earthquakes seems to have no statistically significant relation to the position of the moon

    The moon creates "land tides".
Earthquakes happen when enough stress builds on a fault for it to move with a bump.
I can see how the stats wouldn't line up but the moon could still be a big factor in quakes. Suggestion would be that there isn't enough stress on the fault during the next 20 phases of the moon but this incrementally builds with plate techronics to the point where the next phase is enough to cause it to let go. How large it is depends on the amount of stress that was built up and the location etc.

The thing is scientists spend all their time trying to come up with new ways to explain and predict shit, and they tend to leave no stone unturned, so they will have spent a gazillion man hours exploring those theories and ended up discounting them. If a scientist could publish a paper supporting a hypothesis that the moon influenced/caused earthquakes, and was therefore able to predict them with any degree of certainty he'd be lined up for a Nobel prize and be cited in everything, and that shit really spins their wheels.

I don't think Ken Ring has discovered something that everyone else has missed.

However my plastic Jesus statue on the other hand...
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

I find it interesting that the Wizard, of all people, is critisizing "weird" ideas.
His "spell" broke the Auckland drought some years ago...
