What is wrong with you? no tooth fairy, next you will tell me Santa is a lie and the Easter Bunny has been run over by a nasty vicious obnoxious individual riding one of those awful motorcycle things...

If people took it easier with braking and acceleration, they will find they make good savings there alone. Top speed cruising is fairly immaterial for 10km/h differences - I measure my fuel use at various incremental speeds to test it.
You would hope the NZ government would get out their calculators and add up the energy costs of changing all the signs in the country first, its only a temporary measure and they are planning to change back in 4 months time. Not to mention the fact that everyone ignores the speedlimit anyway.

Isn't that what they did here in the 70s? Speed limit on motorway used to be 130KPH, they dropped it during that fuel crisis to 100 KPH and never raised it again. Or so my mother told me.

Nah mate..... dropped it from 100kph or 60mph to 80kph or 50mph. (for about 2 years as I recall)

Nope. They dropped it from 55mph to 50mph. We also had carless days introduced.

I see the word entrapment and it makes me laugh. If another bike pulls up behind you on the road, how many people actually think "got to do some tricks, might not impress this total stranger otherwise.."

100+ OVER the speed limit on the motorway..

May as well just go punch a cop in the mouth for all the good its gonna do..

I stand corrected - they increased it from 55 to 60 in 1969. I'm old and senile

I have seen much worse... at least the guy had lane discipline. However, it is hard to argue with the police pulling him over, it isn't like they could just let him be. However, I do think the wording from the one cop was a tad harsh. I don't really think he was as much of a menace to society as the cop would have you believe. By what he said, I was expecting something like either Ghostrider or those crazy canyon carvers in Greece. This dude was tame with some quick spurts.... otherwise he just kinda bobbed along quickly.

    Ok Rossi.

Some of us have been around here for a while and there is a bit of a history with very fast road riding that ended badly for quite a few of our mates. Some of the rides I have been on make that clown look slow and lame. The fact is, there is always a time and a place for letting it loose, that guy chose badly. With the increase in cops around the roads, people out on the roads etc, increasingly the only place for a wild ride is at a track.

Yep, agree with you on this. Fast squirts in a straight line...not so impressive. He didn't really do anything too risky other than the stupid moment of riding up the wrong way of the motorway.
