There won't be an huge increase in internet traffic. In fact there'll probably be a drop. There will, however, be a big surge in voice traffic.

Just watched a chemical plant or refinery tank explode... it looks like it has gone from day to night in minutes as the "cloud" builds from the fire... it's like a horror movie

With tsunami's generated by land slides they're always larger in one direction. So hopefully the worst of it has already hit (assuming it was a land slide that did it)

Don't wish to take anything away from those suffering damage to property or loss of family / friends in Christchurch, but this kinda makes you realise Fred Dagg was on to it when he sang "we don't know how lucky we are".

A lot of the pacific islands rise steeply out of the sea. I'd be packing my waka, just in case.

dunno... if you take a look at the locations map on the USGS site, it looks like they've been hammered on both sides of the fault, both sides of the fault looking like they're at very different depths... so not sure how that'll work. The TV just said if there's anything that's crossed the Pacific, it'll hit Honolulu by 2am our time...

Oh Dear God this is YUK! My vocabulary actually is defeated, though I am sure if I try I can find some good words. I am associated with Sendai via a daughter that was an exchange student there, and it is sister town to here.

    We have no fucking idea!

    OMG!
