And by opening our homes up to the children of Japan, we help to mend the wounds left by our predecessors. I took my homestay kids to ANZAC servies, they were always warmly welcomed by the diggers.

Sorry to hear about that. But don't for a minute think the Allies were all goody goods when it came to dishing shit out. It was after all...a world at war. I think Hiroshima and Nagasaki more than made up for anything the Japanese did.

....and the English, and I'm proud to be English.

But here its global help. Me and Mrs Max were talking last night, isnt it amazing that these days nations will do anything to help each other in times of strife, regardless of how 'rich' your country is.

It was not that long ago that if you were in the shite, you were on your own.

Its shocking what's happening. All you can do is pray for those poor people where eber they are and hold your familiy close every chance you get.

That's a shame. I'm really sorry for the poor people of Japan right now. Nearly brings tears to my eyes seeing what they're having to endure.

What this whole set of events does for me is re-ignite my faith in the goodness of the human spirit. We do get some hung up on shite, strung out by what is total bollocks...

Then you see those people on TV trying to hold their lives together in the face of further catastrophe, the unknown of possible further disaster. You see it in the faces of the children, its so heart breaking.

So fuck the petty bullshit in life, the aggro, the point scoring, the inuendo to get one over on each other, chasing a dollar, moaning about how bad the government is for overcharging us.

Then look at those people on TV....

The vast majority of people get it, it seems that bikers do as well (apart from a few) but opinions are opinions......

and as many people have told me, mine mean fuck all and what the fuck do I know.....

    Stay safe and sound people,

    Peace....

It's ok thanks all the same. Heard plenty of horror stories from both sides. The people of Japan were pretty quick to come and help us in Christchurch though...maybe they've moved on and learnt to forgive.

I agree, the generation that fought WW1 is gone, and the generation that fought WW2 nearly so. My dad also fought in WW2, and the history of of the wars from 1914 to 1945 has always been an interest of mine. I've heard stories from those that were there and read plenty more. There was certainly some nasty stuff done by the Japs (and Germans) of the time and I believe they are rightly despised for it. BUT - that generation is nearly gone and make up a very small percentage of those still alive in Japan (or Germany) today. Most of those alive today were far too young at the time to have any involvement or were not even born at the time. The Japanese (and German) people of today should not be confused with those of 1937-45.

The pictures on TV show the ordinary people of Japan struggling to come to terms with what has happened. Just like the ordinary people of NZ on 22 Feb, and in a lot of cases here - still. My heart goes out to them and I wish them all the best.
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!

Japan was occupied by the Americans after WWII. They were disarmed. The Japan we know today is a world away from the Japan of then. If you don't think Hiroshima and Nagasaki were punishment enough, I can't imagine what you think would be. I'm sorry your old man went through some horrible, awful stuff. The people who commit that kind of torture are completely reprehensible monsters. But these are normal, everyday PEOPLE who are being horribly effected by a disaster. Families, children. Not soldiers. And when you blast those people over there right now, you're blasting my family too. My brother, his wife, and my unborn niece. I'm worried sick about them right now.
