Motorhomes have a two fold problem.

Not only are campers generally underpowered compared to trucks and commercial buses, but the drivers are not professional drivers as most larger vehicles have, but often oldies and those out for a Sunday stroll.

I drive very slow nowadays, but only if no one is behind. If I see a vehicle coming up behind me, I speed up, or hug the verge, or pull over.

Because many campers are wide and 90km/hr max vehicles, pulling over should occur more often than it does occur.

A few years ago, towing a trailer maximum speeds were increased due to frustration accidents from held up motorists.

Personally I like following a slow camper, great for increasing my MPG and I cant be blamed for going slow

How do you acknowledge a motorhome? A car is too low down to see a wave while passing or when pulling away, and I don't like using the horn since that is intended to be a warning device.

Funny enough they also do it to say hello when the see another truck coming from the other direction and when they intend to turn.

And I have noticed a few bikes doing it at night as well.

Back to passing when truckies indicate,perhaps I should add as long as the passing driver can pass without his/her car invading most of on coming lane,very few seem to understand where the left hand of their car is,and pass with a lane between,that can be dangerous for sure.

Truckies are great,people when the right indicator flashes for a couple of flashes he is signalling you to pass,hell he's in a higher vehicle and can see ahead.My pet peeve in the car is when I can see the indication and the twat in front of me won't pass.

As has been said, always double check. The truckies are for the most part professional, and great, but check they mean the indicator for you, before assuming. You only need to take a ride in a big rig (ie, couple of trailers attached to the horse) to realise how small the lane is for them, the trailers are constantly shunting the horse from their weight, and if you think the road is bumpy for us, imagine their number of wheels getting bounced around.

If on bike I use left hand waist height wave; if in car quick toot toot (which is not the same as the long blast of "what are you doing you stupid prat?" variety).
