And in regard to flashing ..... wasnt there a thing on TV last year where some top cop encouraged people to flash speeding motorists to fool them into slowing down???

Ah, that would explain a lot.

I've raged a few times at how people around Howick continually like to flash their lights at me, resulting in a surprised quick look at the speedo only to find that indeed, as I though, I was doing exactly the speed limit - not even the speed limit +9km/h like most cars do around here.

    Fucktards.

    what a hoot

this is one funny thread.. I started to read it to find out just what the law is in regard to flashing headlights at oncoming traffic and ended up drinking a whole bottle of lemonade and eating a bag of malteasers laughing my arse off.. this thread was like a funny movie with scene stealing bit players coming and delivering classic lines before exiting the scene.. if we could make this a stage show we'd have a comedy festival sell out for sure :-)

my 2cents worth is flash oncoming traffic if it makes you feel better, I sometimes do and sometimes don't, and also cops are regular folks who just happen to be at work when we hate them the most-like parking wardens and IRD auditors, I bet in your work place there are pricks and there are decent folks who just like cops either rub us the wrong way with their opinions or help us out when we need some change to buy our lunch. it's just that cops are more high profile than the folks at your work in most cases.. take a breath and hear them out before you flame them with your in-depth legal knowledge because it may just be the difference between a friendly warning and a decent fine..
just my 2cents worth, or does that need to be 10cents worth these days??

I can understand a cop being upset with a person flashing oncoming cars....after all it does affect a cops KPI/ performance measurments....

That's precisely right LBD and what I thought at the time, - Karapiro is busy at the best of times but that day is was just crawling with LEO's. So when I had to pootle along the Hinuera straights, I thought it bloody cheeky the Cop using me as a shield....

Did I read they (The PO-lice) were going to trial a system that would identify a vehicle (Plate photo thingy) at the start of a stretch of road (eg desert rd near Turangi) and then again at another point (say Waiouru) and if you completed the distance too quickly (ie must have been speeding) you get a nice letter in the post?
True....or was it just a wind up?
    What next?
What happened to the light planes and the big white lines painted on the road?
    wankers.

    You are correct.

The "safer journeys strategy" has been published. You can expect :

demerit points on speed camera fines (see link)
front number plates for your motorcycle (allowance was made for these in LTAA being passed at the moment under "adhesive plates")
loss of presumption of innocence (required if driver cannot be identified)
point to point cameras (see link)
recording of vehicle location (inherent part of point to point camera systems)
electronic speed control of your vehicle if you are a repeat speed offender (see link)
electronic alcohol interlocks if you are a repeat offender (see link)
electronic driving hours enforcement if you are a repeat offender (see link)
