Old English iron prices are getting extreme. Saw a pretty ordinary Hillman Imp on the roadside today, seller wants $3500. Of course thats not to say he will get it, but...

Actuallly I wouldn't mind another one. It was a fun wee car, far better that the equivalent Mini IMHO

Only live once. Might as well drive and ride something you really like.

Looking after the crab and getting some parts is a bitch, but fuck it. I love the damn things. All class with tons of space to boot.

You have an opinion (either way) about the Tasman and Kimberly (Aussie crabs)?

The car was a write off,but we got out allright. The thing that nearly killed me was the old man didnt know i had taken it.I was only 14.

Don't really have one to be honest, don't know much about them, nor have seen one.

If they use the same set up etc, then they can only be good

Was there any difference between the Morris and Austin versions save the badge?

Supposedly a better class of 1800 but with a 6 cylinder motor. Tasman was the base model, Kimberley was the upmarket one

Oh yea, the 2200 6 cyl?

Like they used for the Wolseley Six? (The successor to the Wolseley 18/85, same body)

apparently:" The standard powerplant for the X6 range was a transverse mounted 2.2L OHC straight-six engine, based on the 1500/1750 Austin Maxi unit. At the time of the X6's introduction, it would have been the only car in production with a transverse straight-six cylinder engine in the world. The Tasman's single carburettor configuration produced 76 kilowatts (102 hp) and the Kimberly 86 kW (115 hp) with its extra carburettor. Both were sold with either a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission.[2]
Due to the application in this car, its engine would also be used in BMC ADO17 in Britain, firstly in the Austin 1800 based Austin 2200, and later in the BMC ADO71 Princess. In Australia, in an ill-advised move, this engine also appeared in the Morris Marina"

The Tasman/Kimberly had the same design brief as the Maxi - make a totally new car from the ground up...but you have to use the doors from the 1800.So it was a 6 cyl 1800 with a big boot, and so they added 2 more cyls to the Maxi engine, good plan eh? They were ok to drive, but I never liked the engine...the auto trans was a problem, and the manual couldn't take the extra power,so ditto.Being the first 5 speed on a dog leg, like the Maxi there were problems with people selecting reverse at speed (it was never their fault of course,it was always the car),and once saw a Tasman box where reverse idler was ripped out of the gearbox floor and dropped kicked out the side of the block by a conrod.

    Sounds like fun times lol

I remeber hearing that about the 1800 doors being used again. A few guys with Wolseley's have used doors from a dead maxi to do up their cars.

My crab is auto, fine around town etc. Not too great on the open road, but does 55-60 fine it seems
