Just played GT5 for the first time, only put up with it for half an hour.

Fully agree with the other posters who said it was shite - the gameplay is about as involved as "Outrun" from the 80s.

Also, Portal 2 is frickin funny.

Hahahahaha, really you gave it a whole 30 minutes? Wow, great review there. Sure the game is not without fault, but if you really give it a go you can not deny the physics, graphics (for the most part) and demands the game can place on you. Try racing the 24hr 'ring with weather.

Has anyone upgraded their PS3 hard drive?

I am looking at doing it soon and wanted to know others experiences.

yep took my 80GB to my laptops old 250GB it's as simple as taking 1 out & putting the other in, just a standard SATA once thats done you'll need the firmware on a USB drive format the drive & your done. Simple ay

Obviously if you want to transfer files, do a Trophy sync, backup HDD onto a ext FAT32 drive then when new drive ready restore back on

Added note: beware of some ext cases tho, they "turn off" USB if disconnected & won't "turn on" again until re-plugged or turned off then on, so during the restart phase of restore you may have to be on hand to unplug/turn off then plug-in/turn on the drive while the PS3 resets (usually only a prob with 3.5" mains powered drives, 2.5" usually fine)

If you're going to put in a new HD then put in a SSD. They're sooooo much better than a HDD!

If your "better" is speed related i'd agree bank for buck HDD still dominate
but anyways what your claiming works in Computer world, not PS3 world.
    1. SSD's are still WAY overpriced
    2. PS3 only has SATA, your not going to see a speed difference at that level
    3. PS3 doesn't do anything with the HDD warranting SSD speed (especially not with the cost that goes with them), chances are you aint either.

SSDs are very expensive, although they are worth every cent. 7200RPM SATA drives tend to have a seek time of around 12ms, a SSD is normally around 0.1ms. The sequential read speeds of a good SSD are usually over 200MB/s - way faster than a disk drive. It doesn't matter if the data isn't sequential either because of those low seek times.

    Thanks avgas

not interested in blueray, high end pc, 50" HDD etc.

Just want to blast a few things, drive a few things and generally jump from place to place and also have a few games for my daughter to play.

So based on avgas's suggestion, I've looked around and will probably go for the xbox with Kinnex so I can get some of the kids games (similar to wii) and something like Halo for myself.
    You get the 'box yet??

I'm a PS man myself. Always have been. I recently sold the idea to Mrs Wifey because she wanted a HD recorder. "It'll only cost $200 more and we can sell everything else. It's a no brainer. I don't want one but you want a recorder"

Worked a treat. Now it's our media centre plugged into the big screen and full surround. Stream media from computers to it for TV, and from the phones. Do the freeview record thing (which I think is heaps better than the old box we had. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for backup internet (cause you never know when you'll have 3 people on the 'net ). It's brilliant.

And I actually love Move on it. Cool shooting shit up like the arcade days, smashing the shit out of someone and playing table tennis. Wifey especially likes Move. Friends that have Wii prefer it too. More accurate and not as naff they said. Dunno how it compares to Kinect but I've heard there's nothing in it. The sex-toy like controller is a bit gay but apparently essential for the accuracy and it is accurate even in low light.

I'm actually very stoked with it as a whole. It "completes me" (oh and our entertainment setup) It's much more than games.

PS. And who ever the people were that mentioned the controllers are better on xbox...who in there right mind would make concave buttons that you have to press hard!?!?! Pure Dumb that is. They're also too big for my little girly hands but I do like how they can clip in to charge.

Interesting, I've seen comparisons between between the two and loading times/menu access times have dropped considerably, some by 50%.

really? best drop I've seen is a few secs, maybee 10% at best. Still nothing warranting the price, I'd (like most) would rather stick with cheaper price & larger space (after all the latter is usually why we're upgrading

That's what he just said to you... the PS3 uses a SATA interface, which is only 150 MB/s peak.

Any links? I had a look about but there didn't seem to much in it, closer to 10% for most things

However we will start to see "artist renditions" & "specs" in the coming times I'm sure, you know those pictures & numbers that usually have very little accuracy with the final product
