Apparently once you get to a flat bit on the zig zags you can see it getting steeper and rockier. Plenty of room to park there. It's only about 200m further to the hut.

    Weather for over coast during the weeknd;

    Saturday 4
Rain developing, with some heavy falls, mainly about the ranges. Northeasterlies, strong at times in exposed places.
    Sunday 5
Rain, some heavy falls at first, easing to showers.Northeasterlies turning westerly then dying away.
    Monday 6
Showers becoming more frequent. Westerlies developing.

Looks like you'll get really dirty, muddy, wet, cold, tired and ................... you'll have a great time - bugger wish I could get over there!

Have a great weekend - all check you have your cameras please

I prefer Metvuw's forcast. Less rain...

2 batteries for the still camera and 3 for the vid.
    3 sets for the GPS.

Anyone want me to take a handful of UHF walkies?

Got 4 very small Uniden's here.

May be handy for the "OK, bring the rope" messages...

I'll be giving it my all to get to the top... walking? 200m up a hill?

Not so much on the cold side of things, taking silly amounts of thermals and spare clothes, but everything else yes

If they are small it certainly couldn’t hurt, you can guarantee if you don't bring them, there will be a situation they would have been handy for sure

Ummm, 200m down to the hut, then 200m back up...

    Call it a round Km.

Hide in the palm of your hand type small.

Potentially if water levels are up and fording is not possible to Big River we could do the Waitahu and stay at Montgomerie Hut on the Saturday

We shouldn't have to as the predicted rain fall is only around the 3mm to 4mm mark.

Regardless, it may pay to throw in some extra food just in case we get trapped in there

Then Mongomerie Hut may not be all that good of an idea as there are only 6 bunks...

All good this end thanks Crim, got me some Rain Off gloves to debut this trip, they seem to have a good rep for handling torrential rain, this weekend couldn't be a better test
