It's a little under 250kms, but on roads that aren't friendly for good economy. Best to go straight to Makaraka, fill and head south. Tiniroto Rd can be accessed by turning right at the roundabout at the end of the bridge, n'est pas?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Fortunately I am riding a bike with wonderful fuel economy, and a great tank range...

How lovely to not have to plan for 200km fuel stops

The Waioeka Gorge is OK at the moment - I rode it on Sunday ... a few stones on the road, but otherwise OK.

It's safer to fill up in Opotiki and again in Gisborne - I could maybe make Opotiki to Wairoa on a tank of gas ... but it's borderline and I've never risked it ...

Murupara to Te Teko is often slippery - and even taking it easy is no gaurantee. A year ago my rear wheel spun up around 102 klicks on the road in the forest ... out of nowhere - I wasn't accelerating or anything - just cruising up a hill ...

Hmmm .. I ride Bandits and I wouldn't risk Opotiki to Wairoa on one tank ... Fill up in Makaraka ...

    Yep only 224km: http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?saddr=...sz=9&via=1&z=9

    Easily doable on a Bandit (a 1200 anyway )

EDIT: Running out of gas on the motorway of snooze, in the dark holds little joy for me...

No doubt the big girls blouse that is me, will fill at any given place if there is even the slightest risk of running out. I am trying really hard to be brave at the moment, pushing Millie as far as she will go, I really want to know what fuel range I have. These new fandangled fuel indicator thing-a-mees create more confusion than ever. I was flashing hard out the other day and rode for what I thought was a long time. Was too pussy to ride to the place I wanted to fuel up at on the way home from work, and went through several sets of lights and roundabouts I did not need to in the quest to refuel. I still had a bit over 4 litres of fuel on board FFS!

I may have to carry a fuel can with me...

Lol went for an adventure ride on the SP2 about a month ago from Tauranga.
Filled up at Murupara and headed into the hills,Ruatahuna,Waikaremoana,Frasertown,Wairoa (were i should of filled up)but no thought i would fill up at the next station, and there was'nt any not untill about 2kms from Gisborne. lol 270kms on a tank, mind you there was 100kms of gravel in between. From there through the Waioeka Gorge,Opotiki,Whakatane,700kms and 10 hours later home.Shit took me abit to climb off the bike but it was worth it, must do more out that way the roads were awesome.

    When will you people learn...

R1200GSA... rated for 33L, I'm getting more like 35-36L, just don't leave it overnight like that. They're also pretty good on gas, and with a GN in front, I was around 4.7L/100km.

Possible to get 700km+ out of a tank, but I've also used it up in 500km, with full luggage and going at a merry clip.

Yeah .. and my BMW adventure bike did something past 500 klicks on a tank ... or as little as 350 klicks if I rode it hard ...

It depends on the size of the tank, how hard it's ridden ... many things ...

I could probably do Opotiki to Wairoa on a tank on the Bandits ... but I like to have fun and that decreases fuel range ...

How big's your tank? And if you ride one of them new 1200 Harley's with a 8-litre tank then you haven't a chance to get from Opotiki to Gisborne ... depends on many things ...
