T7 for cheap brake pads
From the sounds of it the track is getting pretty rooted. Might be better when it dries out a bit. 140 bikes went thru one weekend 4 weeks ago.
I did it about 93 with cantilever brakes!! It hadn't even registered that you'd run out of brakes - I mean you could quite happily get 2 years without changing them normally.
Anyway I was wondering what all the steel wool was around the hub when I noticed the rim... Then the tyre carcass split- got all the way out with a bulging tube.
Make sure you take a spare hanger too. There's always one that breaks ona trip in the middle of nowhere. On 2 different trips thru there this year that I know of, guys have had to do it single speed because of that.
Have fun tho

My Tektro iO Mechanical discs are too weird for t7$29 a pair is the best I can find...I guess it's good to know that it is that bad as I was hoping that it was DOC being cautious! I'm heading through mid-week (bloody teachers!) so hopefully a bit quieter. Sounds like a spare folding tyre or two amongst the group is going to be a winner .
Both Golden Bay & Nelson MTB clubs are recommending riding in & out from the same way-ie not going all the way thru due to the damage done

Wasn't TektroiO an eighties electronica band?

As for the amount of use... well if you deny access for 15 years to a popular ride and then only temporarily allow access only in the worst season for damage... it's hardly surprising it's copping a hammering. So many people are wanting to do it for fear the trial will not result in permanent access being returned. Despite the muddy conditions, in that article DOC say the track's no worse off than heavy use by trampers.

Went for a wee hoon this arvo up supplejack road and did a few of the slippery sidetracks. never been up there before and there is a whole lotta exploring to do yet. There is a pic here that shows a track that I didn't get time to go down but it heads towards Rabbit Island? and looks promising
Very uneventful ride, but it was a good ride and its always good to go somewhere new, but when i got home I noticed a hole in my front guard. Has this happened to any of you guys cos its a first for me.Didn't notice anything and it must have taken a hell of a velocity to smash a hole clean through like that, unless someone was taking potshots at me.
Anyway here are the pics.
