    Fight back

    Cheers
Don't mention the broken speedo but fight it to the end. They will almost certainly drop the charges if you keep at them - they did for me. Did they have three clear seconds with you in their sights? Anything less is an inaccurate reading and they rarely achieve it -their sneaky tactics invariably compromise this important element. The steel reinforcing in the barrier could influence RADAR but probably not IR - what did they use? Search this forum and you'll find plenty of coppers posting how they simply give up if the "perp" fights back even when the cop is convinced the perp is guilty.

Anyway, there are a raft of tactics that can be deployed to get them to drop charges. Too many to list here though. aussiespeedingfines.com is a good place to start. (No affiliation except as a happy customer)

Fight it to the end. If you fight it and keep at it, you will win. Ignore these guys blabbing about paying up and bending over. Too much of that in this country.

Yeah, too many cops not accepting responsibility for their reckless enforcement tactics. Like Bridgman who fought to the bitter end after maiming Collins and Russel: "Mr Collins said Bridgman's refusal to accept culpability for the accident had angered both men and it was hugely gratifying to have him made responsible (by the court) for his actions and face the consequences."

Will the cop who killed a motorcyclist by stopping on a double yellow line earlier this month accept responsibility?

    I doubt it.

There is a photo of the Cop's car parked on the double yellow line with the smashed scooter beside it. Prima facie that is reckless driving causing death, if not manslaughter. It's a smoking gun scenario. Sure the Popo has a defense under Section 1.8.b. If he or she can PROVE that the illegal parking act was necessary to the execution of their duty (and couldn't they have asked the person to stop at a safe place?) AND that it didn't create a risk of death or injury. Good luck proving that!

Made an Official Information Act request for all available data on deaths & maimings involving traffic police cars split into those where the victim was breaking the law and those who were not. So far they have stalled me but I am still pursuing it. Once I have the information I will compare the number of innocent maimings and fatalities per km traveled by traffic police cars with the national average. My preliminary research suggests that it is much higher for traffic police. If the full data confirms these initial findings I will include it in the submission I am preparing for the 2020 NZ Land Transport Safety Strategy.
