Big moment this evening! Hit a big bloody rock

On the way home tonight i hit a frick'in big rock. Rock was about 30cm in diameter and was on the on-ramp. As i was acceleration (80-90km) down the on ramp (from Taka heading to the bridge) to merge with traffic, looking over my shoulder and checking my mirrors and i didn't see this big fricken rock sitting on the road. I tried to swerve at the last moment but hit it with my front wheel. Front wheel left the ground, bike did a shimmy and a semi-tank slapper. I managed to hold it all together and luckily didn't come off. Shit myself but was stoked nothing else happen. However, as i got over the bridge i felt the front start to feel mushy. Pulled off and my front tire was almost flat. Managed to limp home and found my front rim had come off second best.

So is my rim poked or can it be saved thus saved me some $$$, Will still need some new undies thou and i'm gutted i was not paying enough attention to see the rock in time

If the tyre wont seal on the bead anymore, I'd say it's poked, looks pretty marginal even if it does seal as well. Second hand GT250 rims should be quite relatively common, you might be able to pick one up for cheap.

Yeah, my feeling is that its poked! Gonna take it off and take it into Cycletreads and get a pro to give it the once over and maybe the axle as well? Trademe will be my friend tonight unless someone out there has a unwanted cheap rim for sale??

Done the same thing. In a different place though. Was near Bulls, not Takapuna.

There's a wheel place in Cambridge that can fix that. It's nowhere near as bad as the dent my rim sustained. Probably less than $200 to repair and repaint.

Whew... Looks like its stuffed to me. At least the thing about about Hyosungs is that there is alot of spare parts to them lying round everywhere. You'll find one in no time. Just it might cost a bit.

I'd replace it before it might decide to bite back later

It's not stuffed, that's easily repairable. Geez.

Do you know how they fix it? press it back into shape, or weld some material on the turn off the excess, or ....

If you are going to get it fixed Wheel & Frame in Cambridge is the place too get it done. I looked into it 12 months ago for a rim I routed at the track and was quoted a couple of hundy $.

Otherwise trade me will be your friend

Don't really care. I leave that to the professionals. I've had two wheels done by that place and they came back better than they went away, with less balance weights on them. Never had a repair fail either. Used one wheel for 20,000 Km and another for about 15,000 km post-repair with no issues.

    Place is called: http://yellow.co.nz/companies/Wheel-...2457_1729.html

I should send pics of both my rims for a giggle, the front is flat spotted and well, you have to see the rear without the tyre on it....
