There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.
I'm heading out with the BRR from Palmy.Having their Christmas meet then an afternoon ride.
provided I can get rid of this damn cold I am keen (and provided my son Glen - who I gave my cold to - is not well enough to trail ride.....)
I could guide you guys around some less known bits in the aka's or I quite fancy a hot chocolate in Martinbourough?
lunch at Sutherlands hut?
we could always scoot up to the lower reaches of cnut - see how good those new front forks are.....
I'm easy
sunday morning better for me. Building my gates on sat and probably keen to keep it localish. Im happy to do my own thing anyway if you guys have other plans.

As long as there is limited mud - I've got a tired MT21 & nr death E09 on board & don't want to swap these out until the WAR ride. What about we (the Wgtn guys) meet at Caltex Rimutakas at 9.00am Sunday .
Wairarapa is supposed to be finer for the weekend.
I'm confused - Wairarapa or Mungatooks?
If its the Mungys then to the best of my knowledge the Pram track is really nasty (big mud holes) at the top at the moment. I wouldn't take my balding E07 equipped KLR over the Pram track. The really good stuff is all accessible from the Paraparaumu side so it would kind of make sense to go in from the Paraparaumu side?
if I've misunderstood and you wand to go over the Wairarapa then I'll see you at Rimutex at 9![]()

Hi Bugs
there is some awesome riding over the back of hydro saddle
I don't mind what I do but I do have all day to do it in
I just wasn't sure what Steve had in mind
I'm really looking forward to the Waiouru ride
In an ideal world I'd go to Rosie's Waikaremoana ride then fart around up north for a few days and come back to do the Waiouru ride
I probably wouldn't have a wife or business at the end of it though......
Okay, after having a chat with Mark_S this am we have decided to ride across to Wairarapa, initially to Martinborough for a coffee, then into Sutherlands Hutt in the Aorangi Forest Park. You'll need to bring lunch in with you. Looking for an all day ride.
Meet 9.00am at Caltex Rimutakas. All welcome.
Sorry Buggs & Stormtrooper if this doesn't suit. Both Mark & I are running on old tyres pre the WAR ride (I want a new set for that ride), & I think Sutherlands likely has a better rock base. The weather in Wairarapa is also forecast to the better this weekend. I haven't ridden the Akataraweras much & am keen to do so - when I have decent tyres & the base is a bit drier.
No worries - I'll have to give it a miss as wifey has an early afternoon appointment. I rode through the Akatarawas on the way home from Palmy today. It was actually really dry apart from a wet patch at the top. It looks daunting but was completely rideable on an E07 rear and D606 front at 28 PSI. Enjoy the ride!

Hey Buggs, you didn't see a little round mirror lying around on the pram track did you?, I took the motard through there today and lost it.
You're right those ruts look worse than they really are but with 17" road rubber I chose to scoot around the perimeter, in the centre photo you can see on the right next to the tree where I kicked some dirt out of the way to flatten the top of the mound.
Ahhh, i saw the tracks of another adv.rider. looked like you has some good fun in there! Sorry i didnt see a mirror, but did you go past orange hut on the hydro valley side? I went the other way so it could still be there.

well that was a short ride....
the others all got pissy because I got a clear run over the Rimutukas and they all got stuck behind a Police car (I'm really really glad he couldn't see what I was doing - that hill brings out the juvenile side of me) and one of them magistically caused the KLR's coolant to dump itself all over my boot...
I removed the thermostat and rode slowly back home
never even had a hot chocolate at Martinbourough
I'll pull the coolant system to bits after some lunch...
Thanks Steve for the contents of you drink bladder
