Steppin up, want opinions

Hey guys im looking so step up from a 250 march and want to go for a 600 or 750. I don't want to go any bigger as I want to push myself to the limit on a smaller bike before I move to the big boy bikes.

My budget is 5kish. Right now I've got my eyes set on a GXR 600. They're the cheapest, look hella slick, and are an inline. I'm quite keen on an inline as I'm coming from a Vtwin and while learner friendly, they dont pull as hard and would like an inline.

In saying that however what are peoples thoughts on SV650, theyre quite cheap, however I've heard theyre not very gutsy compared to a GSXR.

Another I could go for is a High KM's CBR600F, anyone give me some advice on what these are like?

An old ZXR750 or 600 is also an option from the 90's.

Peoples thoughts, opinions, and advice on stepping up a bike all welcome and wanted. These are the sort of thing I've been looking at

SV650 is a cool bike, but quite timid compared to any inline 4 of the 600/750 variety. Your self discipline might be the guide, as the inline 4 won't bite unless you're throttle happy. Have you thought of the Bandit 600/650? The engines will go to the moon and back, so if the rest of the bike is in decent shape....

firstly, by your post, you have fuckall idea what you want, just a list of bikes that give you wet dreams.
go and ride everything you can first. that will, at the very least narrow your list down a bit by helping you pick out things you do and dont like.

secondly, Id suggest sticking with the 600 il4/650V2 for now. You say you dont want to go to a 'big boys bike yet' - the thing is that 750's have more power than you would think for the extra 150cc over the 600s, the power increase is usually quite a bit larger than the small increase in displacement.

at 5k, you have plenty of options, CBR600s from the early hurricanes all the way through to an F4i, or maybe even an RR are within your budget, youll get an SRAD GSXR if you want it. youll probably find a selection of SV650s, Hyosung GT650/GT650R's, and so on and so forth. For that budget there are a lot of good bikes.

Go to the bank, get a copy of your bank statement showing you have coin to spend, and getting a test ride shouldnt be a problem anywhere you go.

For that kind of coin my mid size IL4 list would be:
CBR600f4
SRAD gixxer.
ZX6R (late 90's can be had for under 5k)
ZZR600E, will sy\till blow your face off after a 250, still a fast enough bike these days.
The ZZR is the nicest every day and long distance bike. Not the most fun though.
The Honda is bullet proof.

k4/k5 GSXR (might find a higher mileage one for your budget). I had a K5 600, such a brilliant bike.

A bike is only as fast as you ride it, control your right hand and you will control the bike. The litre bikes are lazy bikes to ride and if you go for an older model gsxr, they are nice and comfy and bigger physically than the newer arse up head down designs.

Buy what you want, if a 300 km/hr rocket bike is what you want then get that, who cares how big or little it is.

I went from a 250cc to a 1100 blackbird. Best thing I did.

Seeing as you want to push yourself to the limit on a 600 or bigger bike...can I have the remains once you've munted it.

He is face palming because you want to push bikes to their/your limit on a public road, thus endangering others. It's not that we care about you (not saying that we don't) it is just you then pose a risk to others, with what seems to be a foolish attitude. One katman keeps raising but the ostriches we motorcyclists are (myself included) keep ignoring with our heads in the metaphorical sand.

Improve the attitude and you will find the experience rewarding. Push a 600cc sports bike to the limit on the road and katman fears you will make either yourself, him or someone else a statistic.

Take it to the track, ride at 6-7/10ths on the road. Take it easy, learn well, live long and enjoy.

We all say stupid shit, god knows, I've said my fair share, but I have had a good few vastly more experienced bikers give me a good kick up the arse, katman included and have been the better for it.

I'm not very clear at explaining myself its always been my problem. I don't intend to push the bike to the limits on the road I just mean I want to learn what I can from a smaller bike and then use that experience so I can further myself on a litre bike later on.. I've learnt a lot from my 250, if I had gone straight to a 600 or 400 I would have missed a lot of important lessons, thats why I'm saying I want a 600 first

Ok, clearly you're thinking of a GSXR600 as a "small" bike compared to a GSXR1000. And the fastest thing you've ridden is your Spada?

The jump in speed and acceleration between a Spada and a GSXR600 is many times that from the 600 to a thou. You sound very much like you're unaware of this. Any of the bikes you've listed is a serious machine that you need to respect while riding it every bit as much as a turbocharged Hayabusa. More importantly though, talking about pushing anything on public roads induces facepalms.
