i was in my 4wd but seen 2 groups of bikes and 1 lone bmw 2 up. didnt get a chance to look at the bikes but i think there was another big gs and maybe a v strom

quite a few 4wds near lake tennyson which was lucky for me as a blew a front tyre and needed an extra jack to get the spare on

Anyone keen on a 600km round trip Christchurch to Hanmer via the Lewis, Shenandoah, Maruia Saddle, Mangles Valley, Braeburn, Porika Tracks and then the Rainbow back to Hanmer and home?
I am looking at doing it next week when the weather improves, probably Wednesday or Thursday the 5th or 6th of Jan 12.

Had a really good day yesterday, only the three brave souls went. The road that went through the native forest with all those tight corners was awesome I have never seen anything like it before. The Porika Track was daughting, Matt said once you start don't stop as you might not be able to get going again had one scary moment when I got fixated on the ditch and that's where I went, stopped and started sliding backwards but managed to get going again.
Can't say much about the Rainbow can understand why there's a 50kph limit few crazy 4WD's, did enjoy the first part nice riding through the forest area.

Anyone keen on going through Lees Vallley (if its not raining) tomorrow morning? Was planning on leaving Rangiora 10ish then through Okuku but pretty flexible on time and direction. I just want to get out and check a few mods done recently.

It was great to meet you and find another DR rider with even more modifications / add on's than me.

I have to have one of the TM40 carbs now!

We never did see you on the CCC loop either did we?
I'm riding tomorrow but doing a shorter ride to save a bit of gas and to be able to do another shorter run between now and DB1K.
I know you said this is your last chance to ride but I was thinking I may do the CCC again in about a week... I'm off work until the 16th.

I am back at work on Monday but have that weekend off, was going to head into the Clarance one of those days with daughter and her partner on DR, Quad Bike and 4WD, but it is a pretty loose plan at this stage, when were you looking at doing the CCC?

In the too hard basket again now, will probably be a spur of the moment thing if it happens before the DB1K run. May end up doing another midweek overnighter instead which may even turn in to a van trip yet.

Everything here is/has tempted me but having to try very hard to moderate the fuel spending to make it last the whole holiday instead of doing everything now, then sitting about twiddling my thumbs for the next two weeks until the next big spend on the DB1K fuel and accommodation bills.

wonder where that was. i was in there yesterday. there are a few trucks and diggers in there putting pipes across the road for some of those streams on the other side of the river

Cheers TA, had a great ride. The river was low, some of the fords on the Okuku side were deeper. Lots of cows to dodge. The new tank stayed on...the fat bars and risers much more comfy....and the Torpedo roll chart didnt fall off!!! so good to go for next weekend.

Went through there today it was great. Quite a bit of stock near the road. The Loburn side of the main river river crossing is alot deeper than the rest, but still no problem....
