Apparently tomorrows stage has been cancelled due to snow on the 5000m pass they were supposed to cross. Instead there is a ~600km liaison to get to somewhere near the next days stage beginning or something like that??

I've still got SBS, the reception is nowhere near as good as it used to be but it's still being broadcast unencrypted. I haven't tried watching any of the Dakar broadcasts but I'm getting other programs.

    Chris finished Stage 7 in 34th http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2012/us/s...ikes-time.html

That should bring his overall standing back up a bit again. Dakar.com is currently showing him as 40th overall.

Doesn't it say something about the level of overall skills & commitment of the leading Dakar riders when someone with legendary bike skills such as Birchy runs mid field. Outstanding.

My thoughts too. Been watching Romaniacs, Erzberg etc & then the Dakar. It's like a different sport. I guess it is, 400km's a day or so, flat tack across the unknown. Exceedingly large Cajones required.

The combination of speed and navigation skill that the top two riders have is amazing, coma takes one wrong turn, goes 16 extra km, loses 10mins, still comes 2nd on the stage, still 7 mins more back to 3rd (Stage 3).

Stage 9: looks like Birchy had some problems to WP1. Through in 98th place, over twice as long as the top runners.
Picked things up after that though, back to his normal mid-30's...
    Not finished yet though.
Expect to see him clear the last WP in 5 mins or so.
