Yeah, remember that google is your friend and if it's on the net and you agree, it's true. Expecting arguments to be logically sound, based on empirical evidence and from credible sources is nowhere near as fun as finding a blog or website somewhere that says exactly what you want it to say.

Did you know that Elvis is still alive? Or that the world will end this year? And best of all, did you know that Harley Davidson's are faster than 1000 cc superbikes. The evidence is all out there on the web.

Mmm. I'd have to agree with you there. Overall I find the report on the study to be rather biased, and if accurate then the study would rate as Junk Science. But then an example such as the one you quote shows up and I have no argument against it.

Yeah, it pretty well does fall into the junk science camp, but I think that these days there are some so-called right wing ideologies that are more readily swallowed by stupid people who don't engage in any level of critical thinking. As evidenced on KB.

And then smokeu puts up the response above. Nice.

Funny, I thought we were all just folk. Perhaps this is more apt then

Perhaps I missed out a comma... Right Thinkers dumber, then Left Thinkers ... with shades of grey people less dumber than both.

The word you want is "than".

"Right Thinkers dumber then Left Thinkers" isn't a sentence. No amount of commas is going to change this. It's obvious that what you're trying to communicate is "Right Thinkers dumber than Left Thinkers".

Of course a comma will work. In answer to the question: Who is dumber Right or Left Thinkers? Right Thinkers dumber, then Left thinkers... of course that's lazy engrish, but that's the language the Right understand and I may have misread you...

(but yes, originally it was than I was searching for and I reckon a mod must have changed it as I would never make such a mistake)

    From the OP's article...

Hodson was quick to note that the despite the link found between low intelligence and social conservatism, the researchers aren't implying that all liberals are brilliant and all conservatives stupid. The research is a study of averages over large groups, he said.

"There are multiple examples of very bright conservatives and not-so-bright liberals, and many examples of very principled conservatives and very intolerant liberals," Hodson said.

Nosek gave another example to illustrate the dangers of taking the findings too literally.

"We can say definitively men are taller than women on average," he said. "But you can't say if you take a random man and you take a random woman that the man is going to be taller. There's plenty of overlap."

Nonetheless, there is reason to believe that strict right-wing ideology might appeal to those who have trouble grasping the complexity of the world.

Note at the end..."There is reason to believe". That is in actual fact, VERY different to fact. It may well be of some people's opinion, and it MAY even be 100% correct. But that doesn't mean it is without doubt so. Bit like global warming. The bit I put in there as a wind up for you (knowing how you responded to a genuine question I asked you in another thread regarding it), as I just knew you'd be floating around in a thread going on about lefties being smarter that righties.

I used to think global warming was bollocks, that it was just the earth going through it's normal heating cooling cycles, but now wonder if they may be correct. But I still doubt anyone can say 100% they are correct. So there are arguments for both sides that have merit.

They used to say a disprin a day was good for you, now they say it causes more harm than good. Like butter/margarine. A glass of wine a day...

I simply think there are grey areas in most things yet proven as fact, so it's bollocks to try and turn others over to your way of thinking unless you can prove it as factual 100% without doubt.

You're no doubt far more intelligent than I am. I'm no doubt far faster than you on a motorcycle. And this is a motorcyclist site.

    So I win.

There are brilliant people at all levels of politics. My pin up girl Margaret Roberts being one of them. One of the most intelligent politicians ever ( Enoch Powell ) was of right wing persuasion, also a man of huge compassion. As was Michael Foot, a man worthy of respect in spite of his socialist dogma.
The politicians we have here are all lightweights in comparison, with the exception of a few that we had in the Holyoake years.

No, you don't. At least not very often.

Outside of mathematics there is nothing that is 100% certain, everything else, as you correctly point out, is degrees of certainty, or shades of grey. If you only ever believed what was 100% certain, you would believe nothing. You fill your bike from the petrol bowser, but are you 100% certain that you are putting petrol in your bike? And is it a 100% certain fact that your bike runs on petrol? You have a memory of it running on petrol, but how do you know that you aren't in the process of going mad, and what you think are memories are in fact psychotic episodes, and that your bike actually runs on chocolate milk, which is why gas stations sell it.

But on balance, you have strong memories of your bike running on petrol, all your friend's bikes run on petrol, the manual says it runs on petrol and even the gas station attendant says it runs on petrol; and that's why you fill it with petrol and ignore me when I tell you chocolate milk is the correct fuel. If you depended on 100% certainty, you would never ride again because it is only 99.9999999999% certain your bike runs on petrol, not 100%.

And how do you know you are far faster on a motorcycle than I am? Have you ridden with me? How do you know that I'm not faster - I may well be.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.
