Better NIPple that in the bud...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
Various mothers' perspectives from my daughters facebook group. The posting from she who complained about the advert it is in italics.
(me) everyone KNOWS that 'breast is best' - we get it shoved down our throats constantly, but this advert is about anti-smoking, not whether breast is best or not. I would love to see the footage - a 'tough' man like this being an involved parent? Maybe THAT could be a good influence on some men?
then Mel pops this in:
I was part of the group that complained. It was stated that there were alot of other ways to show bonding between father and child, not just bottle feeding. Bathing his baby, wearing her in a sling or wrap, taking her for a walk in pram or just cuddling her. And I agree there would be a million complaints about say a famous netballer breastfeeding her baby on tv, I mean there are so many photos on here removed because of people reporting them, why not complain about bottle feedingIve been asked to move to a "hidden" area in McDs and other cafes because people dont want to see me breastfeeding and I always get horrible looks from people. I dont think there is anything wrong with breastfeeding people finally getting to complain about bottle feeding in public, feels kinda good really.
(me) bottle feeding IS a fact of life for lots of babies in NZ, and it's not something that bottle feeders SHOULD be ashamed of. What isn't to say his partner was unable to breastfeed? Or that there was EBM in the bottle? Or that like their older daughter, this baby has the same health problems that mean she can't be breastfed? It's OTT when it is a few seconds of an advert. That isn't even about feeding a baby. If it was a full advert of "don't breastfeed your baby" - yea, fair enough. But it's not.
(someone else) We should be promoting acceptance of PARENTING and the choices we make as parents. Spread the knowledge of breastfeeding in a loving and accepting manner = awesome, force breastfeeding down people's throats and making them feel like shit if they choose to bottle feed = not awesome. I have 3 daughters, first one I breastfed til 2 weeks and switched to formula. Second one I breastfed til 6 weeks and switched to formula. 3rd one I am still breastfeeding at 13 months. I feel like an awesome parent because I fed and raised my kids based on MY FAMILY, not based on what a crazy bunch of breastfeeding activists say I should be doing. And I didn't bottle feed my two oldest kids because I thought it was "cool" or more acceptable. I was a parent, and I chose how to parent my kids.
(me) I'd have darely loved to BF both my girls - but it didn't work, even with lactation consultants giving me help.. and it took me ages to get over it, and every time I got 'that look' in the parents room when I was feeding the girls, I felt like I might as well have been feeding them a bottle of bleach laced with cocaine and a little asbestos for good measure.
(someone else)
This wasn't just an opinion of a group of people, they used some VERY harsh words in regards to bottle feeding, saying that LLL was "offended" and "The damage that this shot of a celebrity All Black will do to breastfeeding in New Zealand Aotearoa will be significant." DAMAGED lol. Not like Oh, we believe breast is best so I think its best this advertisement doesn't take sides and choose a more neutral way to show parental bonding. They called bottle feeding offensive and damaging lol
(me) Yes, he does DOES carry weight.. so for the Dad who just lies around while Mum feeds bub - or that Dad who pisses off to the pub while Mum looks after bub all day.. perhaps there is something to be said about them seeing an ad with Piri BEING a good Dad.. maybe they'll look at it and go "wow, my idol does all that dad shit - maybe I could do the same".... I sure hope that when the article about Cory Jane & his family comes out in the Womans Day/Weekly soon ,that there aren't photos of HIM bottle feeding his daughter. "All Blacks are all awful men because they bottle feed"
(then Terri got in on it... lol) QUESTION How do we know it was formula in the bottle? Everyone is assuming he's formula feeding his daughter (which by the way, BFD if it was formula - would you rather baby starves?) From 12 weeks old Bront้ was bottle fed by her Dad, and shock horror it was breast milk! Thats right guys, we have this little thing called a "breast pump" that allowed us to give our daughter breast milk while I went off to work. So I'll admit it, I have a baby, and I work, meaning she has been fed countless times from a bottle. And guess what?! I'm not the only person doing it! As unbelievable as it sounds I actually work with a couple that do the same thing!!! There is nothing wrong with feeding your baby from a bottle. I LOVE BOTTLES. If we didn't have bottles I wouldn't be able to get those couple of hours a day to myself to miss my baby. If we didn't have bottles my partner wouldn't be able to enjoy the time he gets alone with our daughter and bonding together. How many mothers have given up breastfeeding because it was a major stress factor? How many could have continued had their partner been able to help them by bottle feeding at night when she was too tired? I LOVE BOTTLE FEEDING DADS!!!
(someone else) I am a huge advocate of Breastfeeding. And nursing in public. And I refused to give my dd formula even when our pediatrician was pushing it. You dont get more supportive of Breastfeeding than me. But I 100% disagree that there are better ways for dads to bond with their children. I didn't pump for my husband when my dd was born and it was a mistake. One I won't be repeating with our new baby. Couples in this day and age need to be equally responsible for caring for their children. There should be no task from which either is excluded. And to me suggesting that a man using a bottle is somehow discouraging breastfeeding is close-minded, offensive, and dangerous. I'm far less worried about someone watching a 30 second clip of a celebrity feeding his baby a bottle and investing in a huge supply of formula and VERY concerned about what damage might be done to the newest generation of fathers who are being told they have no place in feeding their babies.
Grow older but never grow up
sounds like someone's got the blues.
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
My wife decided the whole thing was full of fail. Two of ours had to be bottle fed as they couldn't latch on due to tongue tie... which was great news for me.
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
Can I EXPRESSly forbid the continuation of these puns?

This issue just doesn't hold water.![]()
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

usually the ABs get in trouble for having too many jugs. Poor buggers can't win.
