If money was no issue I would own a R 1200 GS.

It is and I own a KLR 650.

If you put anything higher than 95 octaine they wont idle.the compression is to low for 98.
mines stock with gpr cans being the only performance change.

Yeah, I've ridden 1200's, just not an S. It'll be a couple of months before I see the friend, we'll see.

The brother has one. He got it for a very friendly price, but says he'd just as soon have a non-R, shorter, less impeded with kilos of pointless bling. Supurb touring machine, very flexible but for me lacking that single unique hit.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon

If it can wheelie, then it's fun.

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

    I'd also own a Road King, a HP2 Megamoto, a Buell XB12X, the KLR and a Vespa GT300ie.

Personally I quite like the MT-01's looks but I suspect that the motor is still in cruiser tune and doesn't quite match them.

Edit: I would've test-ridden one last year before I got the Sporty, if Road & Sport hadn't had such an unpleasant approach. The salesman's apparent terror that I might not buy a new Harley after all lost him the whole kit and caboodle. Sales guys: if someone test-rides a new bike and then gets off it and takes an interest in some second-hand unit that you'll make less money off of, at least have the decency to conceal your frustration and pretend you're still keen to sell him something.

As always, I enjoyed my dealings with AMPS the following weekend.
I ride with a local who owns an XR1200 with PC, flowed pipes and K&N.... MT motor is not in cruiser tune......
my bike is 'neck n neck' with the above XR... so XR performance, big block revs....

thats odd, mines an 09 model and bog standard motor wise, idles and runs best on 95-98... go figure?
I cant comment on how much difference tyres will improve handling, this one the previous owner had an ohlins fitted and the front re-tuned at CKT. I know it handles far better than a standard one, and the pevious owner traded it for an SP (ohlins forks and rear) and reckoned it was better untill he had CKT work on the SP, that now is better than mine.

most boring bike I've owned? Honda XL250 (original single exhaust model)
