For those of us living in these parts of the world the date on friday will be July 22nd.
otherwise written 22/7 which has to be a more mathmatically correct aproximation of Pi than the Americanised 3.14 (March 14th).

So by the power estd in me (by the pie shop down the road) I declare
    FRIDAY PIE DAY

As for the poll that stated this thread, I challenge you to not pick one pie above all others, but try the lot.

Since this thread has revived, I ought to mention a most unusual little pie I had as part of a meal in a local cafe...

The dish was essentially an aged eye fillet, rare, with a reduced beef stock jus accompanied by some potato thingy and - the best bit - a spinach and blue cheese pie. Just a little one - individual thing.

Now on its own, I doubt it would work, but as part of the overall dish, it was sensational - set the steak off a treat. Very nice.

Available at Grace on Braid Road, The Tron.

By the power encrusted in me .....lol

Sounds like a bloody good idea Highlander, - perhaps all card carrying pie afficianados should submit a pic of themaelves. with pie in hand on that day....

As for myself, we left the Middle East (forever) on Tuesday and transitted thru Heathrow, during which I caught the distinct wiff of a meat pie, but alas no time to investigate, I was gutted.

In Washington DC now, so it will be a fruit pie for me!

Ah you see, I went in expecting typical aussie garbage, but got something that was slightly better than average. Don't get me wrong, I don't think they make great pies either, but if you're stuck over there and have a hankering for pie, you could do a lot worse.

In short, pies are better here, no doubt.

Still, I like to float my ones. Sometimes I take 'em home and serve it on mash & mushy peas. Don't have the option to do so over the counter here.
Mushy peas? please enlighten?Sounds kinda interesting.

Get yourself down to New World and buy a tin of Batchelors chip shop style. Not as good as the real thing but for a change heat them up and drop a pie on top.

I found the world's best chicken pie once and only once. It was a small delicatessen at Paraparaumu Beach about 7 or 8 years ago and appeared to be run by a couple of homosexual gentlemen. The next time I went back the place had closed down It had a creamy peppery semen sauce with no sign of anus cheese and a smattering of prime cooked & diced pork sword. Simply exquisite!

    I'm hungry now.

I gave up making the best pork pies in New Zealand exactly five years ago so the day off tomorrow is to be spent in the kitchen for old times sake banging some herbs in the pork and hand raising the pastry. And would you believe it there is a lard shortage in Dunedin. Has Fatt Max been on a road trip this week?

    Mmmmmmm, pork pies...

I hear MacDonalds is thinking of bringing back Georgie Pie (they closed them down after buying GP out). GP was a good peddler of cheap pies... Jesters pies are bloody expensive!

I used to like mnce and cheese the most, but these days, there's hardly any cheese in the MnC pies, so I just go for the Mince Pie. Must try the steak n bacon if I can find it...

I think there's some time limit on the Brand (any brand) that means if you (or Maccas) don't use it for a certain time, then it's up for grabs again.

It's a small, petty world that lets matters of such huge moment as the provenance of a good basic pie slip by unremarked for this long.

Alas, the news isn't good. On one hand I can report to have enjoyed the best pie I've ever encountered: the Ida Valley Kitchen's Beef Bourguignon pie is, quite simply the best pie ever constructed.

Tragically, the girls are about to close the door for the last time, so unless you can nip in this week you'll probably die unfulfilled.
