yeah they don't last forever, but the left hand side one is the one under most stress so a plastic cage one will fare better. SKF or FAG will do them. Right one in oil so generally lasts, but replace it while yer there. As Chris sez ask for C3 clearance.

They are pretty cool but I think they are only the same width as standard fxr wheels... so not ideal.

Good shit chris! see you next weekend?!

when I wanted 18' tyres I went and hunted out the back of cycletreads for some that had been replaced/chucked out off someones road bike, not ideal but cheap!

About the stickiest 18s you will find are BT39ss but they are more expensive and less sticky than second hand slicks, the reason for all the wheel conversions.
Let us know what is on it at the moment and head out on them in the meantime if they aren't too crap.

Anythings possible, the common mod was to use 2.15 rear rims from a Xr200 and run 2 fronts back in the day.

Edit it is the XL250 of arround 83-85 that had the 2.15x17 the 200 were 1.85x17 whoops

Keep forgetting about the Heidenau tyres, probably because I've only ever seen them used on street stocks. They are damned sticky by all accounts, pricy though.

They rarely come up & when they do they are expensive as they last so little time when they inevitably get used on a drying track. $100? well maybe this is more your speed.

Does't Henk have a tyre grooving tool, easier to buy old slicks and groove them

Wets are a much softer compound as they are designed to be cooled by surface water.
Slicks aren't really soft enough and won't get warm enough to be effective.

    Find some wets.
