Going up into Hira after coffee.
    Suspension testing time.

If you go up there, I'll be the one under the bike in a ditch.

    Deceast?

I didn't say nuffink about deceast.

Ditches are comfortable. Just lie back in one and pine for the fjords...

There's a short cool track near the start of Scout Rd, to the right as you go around the gate. It bypasses most of the clay.

There's also a track on Westley's Rd that I'm not sure where it comes out as it's wet, muddy and rooty...

The track that comes out at the Teal Valley gate looks to be a good'un too. For 2 or more people from the Teal end or possibly solo from the top end off Westleys.

I tried cutting some scrub that was stopping me going between 2 mucky puddles of indeterminate depth on the Maungatapu and in the distance I could hear the buzzing of some 2-strokes. Oops. The scrub was in the middle of a wasp nest

After all that, I got a branch and tested the depth around the northern side. Shallow and a base like concrete

    A good day out

I see someone went arse over teakettle (slippery log - 4m bank - bike landing on leg) up Hira yesterday about 1:40pm and had to get helicoptered out.

I was in there then, the carpark had about 5 trailers and I didn't see or hear anyone all afternoon.

    It was brilliant.

Although at one point I thought I'd lost compression and may have had to walk out...

I think you will find that most of those pesky mtb'ers pay rego. Just not specifically for their bikes.
Where would it stop....would it be like bikes and cars with rego for each individual bike....what about skateboards, scooters(kids ones), good old ruggggga, tramping, kite surfing, fishing etc etc.
    Ah!, food has arrived........................................... ..............

    Right...

I've had half a teaspoon of concrete and have hardened up a little, and am going back up Westleys Rd tomorrow to have more of a nosey at the 2 tracks.

I'll be taking the shovel, rope, pruning saw and possibly even the chainsaw...

    What could possibly go wrong!
