Anyone remember the Hawkswood S bends in North Canterbury?

Between Parnassus and the old Conway store (long gone also) there was the Hawkswood S bends, coming from Ch-CH it was a righthander then down hill to the bridge then left and uphill into a tight right hander where the road went back up the other side of the gully, long straight then more good stuff leading into the Hundaless,if you do remember it any chance you can tell me the year they bypassed it and went with the boring straight stretch?Cheers.(yea i know i mispelt Canterbury, apoligies to the pedantic)

1956? doubt it, was in the last 25 years, see I narrowed it down a bit already

Conway store was gone probably 30 years ago

Last time I drove through just for fun there was a farmer dropping pine trees across the road, had to stop and wait for him to drag one out of the way so we could get through.

Will always remember a mate from the north island in his XY falcon who'd never driven it before getting to the hairpin heading south, locking everything up and going straight through the fence. He asked why I'd told him to go that way and not down SH1.

There's a Hawkswood Festival of Speed held at times. I think by the Canterbury Car Club. A good excuse to head up that way for a bit of entertainment and an excuse to go for a blat along the Leader.

The original Conway store did burn down, happened after the guy that owned its wife returned home after a holiday in Stralia to find her husband in the sack with the 16 year old they employed.was a fucking lot longer than 5 years ago D.
