I guess what it looks like is secondary to the way it will perform. However, it does look like it's well made. I appreciate the fact that it doesn't always have to be an airhead that receives a full makeover. The R259 engine is an excellent engine. Will you get the weight down to around the 200kg mark?

Well 'Von Trigger' the 83 G/S has lived in the shed for a few months now and we have had some good rides together, explored some gravel but not any serious off road stuff. Von T has conversed with the Ducatis in the shed and I hope impressed them enough with tales of long journeys and longevity that they will behave themselves when they finally see the light of day. I like the ride and have enjoyed myself playing with a BM. However....I already have in the shed the aforementioned Ducatis all of which require work, money and time, Von T although being a nice tidy example does require TLC and due to being away with work a lot I do need something in the shed I can ride and then ignore without feeling guilty. The good old DR will fulfill this role and eventually one of the Dukes will (fingers crossed) provide a reliable two up ride. So Von Trigger is up for Sale. 1983 G/S, Warrant and Rego etc. Recently serviced. Original cases, racks, rear mudguard etc included. Anyone interested pse PM me and I will forward more details. Need to be quick because if I spend too much time looking at and riding the old boy I will change my mind!

Conscious this is not strictly an ADV bike - they're capable on gravel though - Looks to be in very good condition cosmetically - tempting - yet I'll be sticking with my R1150GS which has a nice patina of use

I just brought a 2008 GS and have been crawling through the internet to see how hard it is to service the brake system myself. Does anybody here do this job themselves .
I,m thinking of getting the local BMW dealer to do the my first major service which is due just to get it checked out while under the 3 month warranty and to have it updated/ Mapped which seem worth it.
and from there hopefully I can do it myself , am I kidding myself?????
I can find lots of info on the internet on the models up to 2007 GS they seem easy enough to do but nothing on the 2008 on which correct me if I,m wrong they have a different ABS unit? as there seems alot more going on on this model.
Any help would be appreicated.
Another question do GS have a slow start feel my one seem like it has a low battery but it always starts the bike shop I brought it from said this is how they start?????? The bikes only done 15000 kms so it has,n t done alot of work but this could be a bad thing for the battery .
Does anyone here have a new spare motobins cranksprocket & nose bearing sitting on their shelf they want to lend me till mine comes from motobins in a few weeks?
