    Policing with Passion

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/7334...turns-to-chaos

"They [police] were aggro, man, caning little kids of 14, beating them with bats. They got the dogs out. My mate's missus got shot with rubber bullets. My mate got wasted with a baton."

I had my student years when I knew everything and joined a protest regarding CHOGM - then the police in riot gear showed up, did I hang around? no damn way. For these brats that want to cause a public disturbance, I thought they would rather go home than confront batons and dogs - obviously its cooler to confront the law. Idiots.

It seems the police have been taught the complete opposite when dealing with breaking up parties.
I have been been at parties when the cops storm inside pushing and hitting everyone they can reach, not caring if they are sober/drunk, male/female or cooperating or not. Sure being heavy handed may be needed in some situations but it shouldnt be the first tactic used, it just breeds discontent and typically angers everyone involved, and a group of angry drunk youths should be the last thing the police want.

standing up for your rights against anyone, be they the blue-vest gang or the black-leather-vest gang is admirable. where the fuck would america/ black people the world over be if the LA riots hadn't happened. backing down just cos they sick you with dogs and firehoses, doesn't cut it. the people who back down are called PUSSIES.

or you could be like any of the hundreds of monks/ people who self immoliate (thomas ball, falun dafa et al) in public to protest.. you'd prefer that eh, asides from a mop and bucket you can just ignore them...

I like how the mother advises against parties, open invites etc. Wow, first time I've ever heard such sensible advice!

Wait... where the fuck has she been? Under a rock?

    I didn't think you had.
I liked the rubber bullets comment, just proves you can't rely on witnesses.

Did hear the rumour that the police were carrying shotguns, rubber bullets sound more believable or bean bags as was also suggested. The truth is dead, long life conjecture and rumour.

Kids these days don't understand that the Police ARE THE LAW.
I don't fuck about with cops, they are not the embodyment of opression as all these hippies in the occupy movement will have you believe.

We are a democracy, if you hate the cops that much, then lobby the Govt. ! They have to listen if your voice is loud enough (eg: you have a great deal of support). If they don't listen to you then perhaps it's because your views are not shared by the majority of the NZ public, in which case you should shutup and go home. In this case (drunk teens thrashing it up in a quiet neighborhood) I doubt you'll find much public support for the drunk munters blocking traffic and damaging cars.

I'm all for 'standing up for one's rights', however doing so by resisting the police is a completely retarded method for doing so. Organising a petition, contacting local govt. reps and gaining public support for your cause in a logical and peaceful manner should be the first course of action.

It has always been the sacrificial lamb on the alter of worship to ratings and money, never let the facts get in the way of a good sensationalistic headline.

democracy: two wolves and a lamb deciding on what's for lunch.

also, what about when 86% of the people oppose a piece of legislation and they pass it anyway? good democracy eh? you're deluded if you think the government exists for your benefit. the police are merely front line policy enforcement of said government.
