I guess it helps that work hasn't changed and the up side is I don't have to commute in traffic to get there any more, 5 minutes on the pushbike works for me.
I found 900m^2 for 7k utilities at the gate ,

My picks would be Northland, around KeriKeri.
Warm all year round, great fishing and good pig hunting.
Or Taupo, good trout fishing, easy access to some iwi land for Red deer stalking and pig hunting, easy public access to great Sika deer stalking and only two hours from the bay for ocean fishing.
But then I live in South Auckland so why would I want to move anyway

Mrs B and I have had this conversation many times. Mind you our bigggest 'asset' is broken and will be rebuilt one day (TC3 land.... stream .....)

Me I'm keen on Wanaka - love it, buggered if I know what I'll do thought! Time to hit the pencils again and grow a goatie.

Mrs B is keen to head Nelson way.

Darn thing is my daughter is at her first year of high school and excelling - a bugger to move. I figure she'll be almost finished there by the time we are sorted housewise! My son will fit in anywhere.

I changed jobs after Feb quake - my new one is all Earthquake related. MrsB's job is deep in quake shit too..........

    Christchurch. What a mess.

Im with you Allan. What a mess. Majority of our money is tied up in real estate . Safe as houses. Great Tui add.
Currently we basically cant move anywhere as it is a mission to deal with ECQ inspections Insurance Co bullshit on 4 properties.
One is a villa that ironically just finished doing the finishing touches of the renovations on and cleared all my gear out at 11 am on Feb 22nd.
We were about to sell that one and one at North beach and move to 14 acres on Maddisons Rd just outta Templeton.
That never happened but the irony is that is about the epi centre of a large amount of the quakes we still continue to have but there is still less damage to that house and property than our other ones.
Management rights in the right complex on the Sunshine Coast are looking good about now

Hibiscus Coast! Still a relaxed atmosphere with a 3km local beach and everything you could ever want to do within easy driving distance. We love the North for it's beauty and fantabulous biking roads and hundreds of beaches and hectares of native bushland.

Not far to the Coromandel and we regularly go to visit family in Whitianga.

However if you want the big city life it is a mere 25min motorway drive and the variety of shopping is bewildering.

I love the Hibiscus coast, would move back there tomorrow if it was still like it was 20/30 yrs ago. Loved living on whangaparoa. Too many people for my tastes now though.Sadly.

HOrnby, Hei Hei and the awful Rose and Thistle

Like I said, its interesting because we can now legitemately ask the question. We could sell our house (Somerfield when we bought, but its Lower fucking Cashmere when we sell, or South Merivale or Fendalton East) and would get good money for it. I'd like to build a new house (or get one built) incorporating current tech insulation and heating solutions. But in Christchurch? not keen.

With the opportunity, it seems rude NOT to ask.

yeah: there is no CBD in this town, and all the central city hospo stuff is gone. All of it.

I wonder if we could buy all the old parking meters and traffic lights and install them here and pretend we had a CBD ... might start a land rush! .NO?.

Maybe house swap with somebody out west for wee bit, change of surroundings/perspective and all that?

For a lot out that way, it's basically as if there were never any earthquakes... work is the same, the roads are all but fixed from the minor damage they took, never feel any more quakes, they never went to the CBD anyway so its loss goes unnoticed, never had any liquifaction, never had any damage except maybe some cracked ceilings.

Shit if it wasn't for my bikes in the garage, I wouldn't have even risen from my bed after the first one... I just assumed it was goodbye Wellington and went back to sleep.

You and dangerous have hit the nail on the head...and so have a shitload of others. Land prices in Selwyn are starting to go through the roof now. New subdivisions in Rolleston almost every month too....Go West is the new call.

When our place was signed off after months of angst we looked at each other and said "it's highly saleable, where do we want to go ?"
The answer unfortunately was that we couldn't afford to shift workshop, animals and the accretion of too many years....
