Thanks for taking the time to answer.
The work vehicle has oversize tyres which is why I depend on the GPS to keep me (mostly) legal. At speedo 100k I'm travelling 107k
I do factor in the speedo error etc for other cars. Trucks on the road travel at 90kph as do folks with trailers and that is just life Jim.

As I said, its the drivers doing 80kph that I think are taking the piss.

Having been on the other side of the equation, a lot of drivers won pass. If I'm towing something, esp big and heavy, I drive on the mirrors and make a really big effort to let folks through and on their way. So many simply won't. And the next car arrives, and then the next and as you say then their is an issue.
Sometimes to force folks to pass you have to pull right over and slow to 30kph.
Do they not realise that you can pass at any time so long as you don't cross the center line? (Correct me if I'm wrong)

The standard answer when a punter accuses us of having a quota is "Nah, I reached my quota before morning tea, I'm writing this one for fun".

Ha ha! The guy who got me for 112km/h could have had sense of humour instead of looking glum about it. I didn't ask about quota though, maybe that's where I went wrong?

Rubbish. L's and P's had (still have?) speed differentials per driver for yonks. I don't see the difference in having another class with another plate, or why it has suddenly become a new, impossible to implement idea.

Reality is otherwise; I spent years in Sydeney riding on motorways where there was that speed differential and it worked fine.

However, it would help if the po-po bothered to enforce the keep left rule. Which would actually align with the whole 'safer journeys' strategy, with a lot less aggro and traffic chaos all round.

Motorways that are far better engineered and constructed than anything we've got. Ten fold what we have in Wellington at the very least!

NZ has very little motorway compared to open road, and the death toll would go up quite a lot if we started implimenting higher limits for people who could pass what would be just another woefully easy lisence test.

More needs to be done, before even as much thought as I've had to put into this post be wasted on a personal speed limit system.

Novices and pussies, stay in the slow lanes.

My pet favourite here is truck on truck action up hills - e.g. Ngauranga Gorge - how often do you find all the brake lights coming on as cars slow down or try and get around the truck that is passing the truck - one doing 25 the other doing 30, while the cars are trying to keep to the speed limit of 80. The trucks (and buses) should be allowed to drive only in the left lane until they get to the top of the hill. This is a bit like a MotoGP prototype catching up to a CRT when there is a 50 or 60km/hr speed differential.

Cat and scummy, remember if ya tickets don't work on that keep left thing don't forget to recommend to ya bosses those yankee "don't back up" spikes to stop people travelling the wrong way in a lane.
It will never happen here because 99% of all Kiwi drivers are self appointed motoring gods. I include every donut muncher as well.

Alot of that actually comes from ignorance, they don't know what they're doing wrong & NZTA refuse to run safety or educational ads teaching them as they have a scam to push.
Most believe they're good drivers cause they don't know their speedos out by 5-20%, they don't know they have to keep left unless overtaking, they are unaware it's illegal to hold up traffic (and some of that again comes back to speedo error some believe they're doing the speed limit), they are ignorant of others reliance on correct indication (including pedestrians) & they have no concept of how slow driving severely adversely affects the road it screws everyone up.

Don't get me wrong tho alot are just fucking useless drivers too (fault of "have money here's licence" licensing system) but there's ALOT of ignorance out there on NZ roads & the great NZ scam just makes it worse.
