Is it a good idea to learn wheelies on a push bike before I try to do them on a motorbike? A mate of mine said that a push bike is a good way to find your balance point without risking serious injury or damage to anything.

Different skill sets. Think Death_inc has told of a guy he knows who can wheelie a pushbike all day long, but can't wheelie a motorcycle to save himself.
Chris - Video your wheelies. You'll learn so much more from that than most other things.
Na, like I've said before, trailies only teach you to wheelie a trailie. Same with pushies....nowadays I can't wheelie a pushbike more than about 20 ft....
Practice is what does it. Wheelie every chance you get. Practice pulling it up and putting it down again, don't try to hold it. Feel how high it comes up. Go a bit higher each time, but only while it feels controlled. You'll get to the point where you don't have to 'hold' it up with the throttle. Again, just get used to it, don't push too hard. The rest will come on it's own. If you're having a shit day leave it alone. You don't learn anything lying on the ground.

Should I try doing wheelies standing up on the pegs? I've heard it gives better control
