Depended a lot on the transmission. There was a big selection; 4 on the floor, 3 on the floor with O/D on 2 & 3, ditto on the tree, 3sp B/W auto, and they're just the ones I can remember.

When I had my 6/80 a mate had a hotted up 6/99, went real well, but I dearly would have loved a 6/110. By the way, my '52 6/80 would wind the speedo off he clock on the Desert road...

My dad had one of these. I rolled it and it was never quite the same again. The two main things I remember about it were the horn ring would regularly fall off leaving the horns blaring, and the awful upstairs gearchange! Went quite well, but.
After it was repaired following my "indescretion" he sold it to a farmer cousin who stored it in his open implement shed. Rats chewed the wiring which set fire to a bird nest under the bonnet and it was written off.

Sad! I bought mine from a fussy mechanic after a couple of years pestering, and it was mechanically perfect. Original condition, could have done with some minor tidying, but it went so well and that little OHC six sounded absolutely sweet, I kept it just as it was. Finally sold it to a bloke who put a 3.3 Cresta motor and box in it and he rolled it. I was gutted!

Bloody hell! Mind you I don't think ours was original; it was powder blue. Looked ok though. After the prang it was painted a sort of apricotty peachy colour. Different from the staid standard colours.

Wonder how many of these old english tanks, such as the Wolselys, Super Snipes, etc died in demolition derbies around the stockcar tracks?
I knew a guy who used to buy a couple of Super Snipes or Hawks every year, for bugger-all too, for smashing up.

The old Humbers sure could take a beating though
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Those old Snipes were a tank on wheels. Protect the radiator and they were a sure bet to keep going!

Many years ago I had a tussle, late one night, on the back road from Otrahonga to Hamilton. Took ages to catch up with a set of tail lights (& I wasn't hangin' about) and eventually discovered the car was a Wolsely!

My lasting memory of a 6/80 is lying over the top of the engine and hammering in frost plugs upside down...not much room in the engine bay.

I didn't realise you could put frost plugs in upside down...

A mate of mine fitted a 4.1 Falcon motor to his - the overdrive didn't like it

So he fitted an overdrive 4- speed Ford top-loader to it.

I tried towing a caravan back from Tauranga to Taupo, got to a long hill and a mate with his XY Fairmont, 4.1 had to take over...
