So there was a guy in Auckland had a brand new Harley in his garage, visitorsto his house would be shown the pride and joy. He never rode it though, he even got someone else to take it for a warrant when the time came. Which is how I came to hear about it.

    Was he a motorcyclist?

No - at least, not in my definition - a motorbike owner, and maybe even collector but thats like having a car and never driven; one would be an owner but not a driver

    And this.

I hate people trying to put some sort of ridiculous definition behind a word, which simply means somebody riding a motorcyclist.
That's like saying, what makes a breadmaker? "Oh, it's all in my opinion and I do think it's the patina it develops on the blade"

    Tripe.

And nobody on KB actually knows what a cotormycle is anyhoo. Botormikes are noisy handbags AFAIK

Aw, don't use logic or actual facts, more fun debating something that has no relevance in the real world.

As for "motorcyclist" I reckon anyone could call themselves whatever they liked and who really cares what anyone else thinks? I think I'll call myself a runway model. The fact that I don't fit the criteria, or someone else thinks I'm delusional doesn't really matter to me

    My mistake.
A motorcyclist is like a unicorn, very rare and beautiful.
A motorcyclist is somebody whom must be very arrogant about their standing as a motorcyclist.
A motorcyclist can not own a Harley or Honda, nor can he own anything other motorcyclists do not like
He/she must ride a certain amount of times, this is a very, very blurry rule, nobody knows.
Most of all, he/she must wear real leather and kill babies with their biceps.

A motorcyclist rides a motorcycle when he or she has the time.

A biker makes time to ride his or her motorcycle.

    Agree with that sentiment

That must be why my wife refers to my bike as 'the mistress' as I mark ride days on the calendar...

It's quite a simple explanation, but is quite irrefutable.
But a poll is needed, just to reaffirm.

My calenders ALL come pre-marked (pre-numbered actually) with available ride days ... it's just my choice which of those day I will ride on. I have yet to get a calender that shows a day I am not allowed to ride on.

A biker rides a pushbike dont they - Chambers dictionary = bike, short for bicycle, therefore a bicycle rider must be a biker. Don't change the subject Did you mean "bikie" which according to Heinemanns NZ dictionary is a person who "rides a motorbike, often used derogatorily of a reckless rider" That be the Kiwibikie way.

When and why should I wave if somebody isn't a true motorcyclist? And how do I tell from a distance?
