"Sorry Officer, umm.... my yellow power band got stuck wide open"
Well sorry to burst your bubble but everything I've said is true.
The engine was based on an old Jap,the front end was a total failure an the chassis was not a new idea,,,fuck me both HD and Norton used the engine/gearbox as a stressed part of the frame before Britten did.
Sure the bike was very good in it's day,,,but it was always going to be very short lived because it was never really anything special and by the time it did do any good,,,it's day was already just about over.
Like what has it done since,,,,with all these sqillions ?
And biggist bike manufacturers in the world,,,,,,it beat a few other twins in an under developed class,,,,,,,big deal.

the guy built a bike in his garage with a few mates and a shoestring budget and the world stood up and took notice, if it's so easy and overrated how come someone isn't doing it every year? Every Decade? or even every generation? Wait has anyone else ever done anything like this in the modern era?
Anything associated with John Britten in USA is prized. They have a real appreciation for what he did and how he did it. Almost every race meeting I go to someone has a John Britten Story or memorabilia. As soon as they hear where I'm from they tell their stories. Regardless of your opinion, he had a big influence on a lot of people.
Ducati Forza
Bit harsh mate, the bike was more evolutionary than revolutionary although aspects such as the CF wheels were a first & the build method was patented by John even though Murray Aicken developed it
It was a pretty clever piece of kit that looked like a work of art
On the other hand the shoestring budget garage build is a bit of a myth. John was pretty well off compared to your average biker & he had some very very clever people both here & from overseas helping him, without those people & their input he would have struggled
Overall it was a terrific effort , something Kiwis should be proud of , I hate the tall poppy syndrome
Yet again…… Kick the kiwi who has done well down attitude, nice to see fellas.
Give the man a thread and watch him work with it, either design something or improve it beyond logic in the day. He was a doer, not a talker and certainly not a key board jockey.
I didn’t even begin to understand the man, few could but I sure as hell appreciated him for his talents and what he managed to achieve in his short life.
L'arte italiana cammina su due rotelle!
Hands up who on here has built a better bike than the Britten in New Zealand?
Certainly not me so I'm not going to knock the bike or the man at all and those that can't stick their hand up and tell us all about their "better" bike but knock Britten, well the rest of us can think of all sorts of names for you that you deserve.
Cheers
Merv
I built a sidecar in my shed with an angle grinder and Brucies welder, does that count?
