Making money is what she's there for and imdying does have a point about letting money walk out without a fight but unfortunatly having other things quick to prepare would often mean having a certified kitchen which would be imposable to install in this shop.
She often goes the extra mile when people are stuck (broken down, out of gas etc) and got the local fuel pump opened up to supply gas and oil to some of these people on the weekend and has even rang me when she cant get hold of anyone else to help and iv'e taken gas to bikers that have run short so she does her utmost to help people in need.
99% of people are great but 1% arn't and its even been that bad before that other members of the public have butted in and told abusive persons to pull the head in so to speak

Life is full of assholes like that, teach her kung foo.![]()
For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.Keep an open mind, just dont let your brains fall out.
so over the next few months while your business slowly dies why not put a sign out with max five people or similar on it.
or if you want your business to grow why not advertise is as a destination that will cater for larger groups if they would like to phone or text in their order ahead.
tis your call
My call ok FFS the thread was started by me to highlight the fact that people seem to think that the likes of my wife are there to be abused Just because the shop havent got what they want when they walk in.
Are you one of those people?.
My parents owned a shop in a bit bigger town and had the same problem with abuse and before you say anything that business was run down when they got it and 5 years later it was a humming wee shop with an bloody good turnover and this shop my wife works in is the same.
As i have said before this thred was started to highlight the abuse these people get and ask people to be a little understanding but some people just dont get it.

i organise some car club runs, always make arrangement with the food places we plan to stop at.Its sometimes hard to know how many are gonna turn out
My completely unexperienced opinion (This is KB so unexperienced opinions matter!).
Watch the forecast, clear weather in summer on a weekend= More pies.
Shitty weather or winter= Standard amount of pies.
Your profit margins should be over 200% so if you get a hot day and put out 40 pies and only 10 sell you don't lose as much as only putting out 10 and 40 are demanded. The opportunity cost of under supply will be far greater with a loss of income with under demand. I don't know your profit margins so pull out a calculator and work out the numbers.
If you have standard number of pies out and (average excess demand of a group ride on a particular day) is demanded, what is you loss of income from being under supplied? (Pies demanded x price) - (Pies supplied x price) = income lost out on.
If you see a good weather weekend coming up, put out excess pies and the usual traffic comes through, what is your loss of income from being over supplied? (Pies demanded x price) - (Cost of pies thrown out at cost) = a slight loss or dependent on ratio of sold:unsold, could still be positive.
If your profit margins are 200% then if you sell one third of your stock you break even. That is usually a risk businesses are willing to take because the opportunity cost of not supplying those excess pies is a greater loss to the business.
(economics comes in handy some times)
This is all starting to sound like the lemonade stand game I used to play on the BBC micro/Apple //e back in the day!
Hear what the original op is saying, worked in the food industry for over 30+ years. You can't please all of the people all of the time, especially if they have got issues such as lack of basic decent courtesy!
But yeah, bikers shoot themselves in the foot if they expect to rock up unannounced and expect to be fed cordon bleu chez instant! All of the big rides we go on, usually we know the destination where vittles can be sourced. Doesn't take rocket science to have a quick yarn with the establishment to let them know they going to get their cash registers ringing!
Know from experience with the more onto it places who actually hire in more staff and stock up on vittles for a crowd of hungry, thirsty, filthy biker scum!
Wait, what were we talking about again?![]()
"I like to ride anyplace, anywhere, any time, any way!"![]()
Your right in some respects but why should she put up with abuse WHICH IS THE POINT OF THIS THREAD and the pies are only an example.
Ive never seen a small town shop i've walked into with 40 pies in the warmer incase theres a group in unannunced.
As i said before 99% are good and will happly wait if there doesnt happen to be what they want but why should she take the shit that the 1% think is there right to dish out just because they can.

Name a job that customers don't get angry at staff?
Option 1- Live with it, who really gives a shit; sticks, stones etc. Abuse gets them no extra pies and doesn't break any of your wifes fingernails.
Option 2- Adjust the business to cater to these people and improve profit at the same time.
Option 3- Try start a campaign on kb.
Kiwi Cowboy, I think you need to explain that this is rural shop in a very small town. It is not a cafe or eatery in the normal sense. It is already close to a motorbike destination for an event that happens once a year. There is a pub nearby that does cater to those wanting hot food. etc.
Personally I don't see how your wife can hope to estimate how many pies would be needed on any particular day.
Oh, I might add that the bikers in question were not the ones attending the rally in Alexandra as we went elsewhere, and advised the pub in advance to expect us.
Time to ride
