The customer is always right, so telling them to "fuck off cunt" probably would end your employment or buisness rather quickly. Apparently there are other ways to speak to rude obnoxious people, but fucked if I can think of any. A simple get fucked is so much easier.

True the customer is always right BUT these people aren't customers, they are lost customers and therefore just self important abusive picks that require a reality check. Pity the bosses tend to see it your way.

(economics comes in handy some times)
It's not about amount of stock ... it's about available stock in the pie warmer on ANY given day. If 20 go in the warmer each day and are all sold ... no waste pies. (good economics) If 50 go in each day ... and on some days ... all are sold. With varying amounts of wastage from day to day ... chucking unsold stock out is bad economics. And tough if a few whinging bikers don't get a hot pie. Perhaps they get over their own ego and get a life. (and then go across the road to the pub to get one)

Perhaps ... if YOU send her an E.mail each day and tell her how many pies to put in each day. Oh ... remember ... private bus trips often come through and stop there as well. But I guess you already know that (and how many). And you will know how many bikers coming through will want to stop for a pie too. And don't forget the cyclists doing the rail trail often call in as well. On your daily E.mail ... pass all THOSE numbers info on too. Your knowledge of economics will make that information easily available to you. Education is great ... eh .. !!!

I've told (only the most deserving) customers to fuck off before. Management know that they can pull me up on it if they like, but I'll just pack up my shit and leave; bothers me naught... but then I've never crossed a man that didn't deserve it (shout out to Coolio!) and they know that.

I'd still be looking to make a buck instead of just having a moan.

The old ... "we've run out of pies, and the truck bringing more wont be here for a few days" excuse might work.

And Bikers are not rude obnoxious people ... they (some) often just have unique personality. But no life worth mentioning ...

That is the primary goal of ANY shop. Having NO waste helps a lot in this regard. Chucking unsold pies out is losing money.

I told an Asian customer to fuck off out of the honey shop once, that was before I knew anything about doing business with Asian people. They always want a cheaper price.

    Totally agree.

So do we have any suggestions that could help this man? Every microwave packaged meal I've ever eaten made me wish I hadn't purchased it, but a nuked pie I can just cope with. That won't please everyone... so what 'prepare in under 5 minutes with minimal human intervention' alternatives can we suggest?

No ... you give them directions to "another" shop that "sells it cheaper" (and doesn't exist) ... many miles down a deserted back road ... with suitability confusing instructions.

    Times must have changed.

I remember 20 years ago i was in pgg in addington to get some winter clothes when a bus load of asians (japanese i think) arrived.
They looked through the racks and left without buying bugger all and i heard the tour guid say to the shop manager that if the price was twice as much as was on the sticker they would have cleaned the place out as they see price as a sign of quality.

The problem Kiwi Cowboy mentioned ... is NOT a new ... or unheard of problem in any shop ... in that line/type of business ... anywhere in the country.

Solution ... ??? well in MY extensive education (in the finest schools in Southland [on the days I actually showed up]) ... I took a class in Mind reading 101. It gave me the ability to know what the weather was doing anywhere I was ... at that moment. So if out on the bike ... and I was getting wet ... I knew to put the wet gear on.

At other times ... it was no fucking use at all ... I just had to guess ... just like every OTHER person/biker.

Say what ya like about me i dont give a fuck but it upsets me when my wife gets abused (call me old fashined) although she can look after herself.

Simple....put the price of the pies up to cover the losses then stock the warmer up.....you have a captive audience if you are the only shop around that sells em and the bikers are hungry. If I was on a mission and was in the middle of Central Otago and starving, I would rather pay an over inflated price for a fresh pie than starve for another hour or two. . I guess then the grizzly cunts can whinge about the price, but still get a feed.

You're right. 200% is no where near the usual profit margin for food. Most bakeries have margins of 400%. I was meaning profit margin for individual items. Rent etc comes out of profits. If you bake your own. A 20 pie tray shouldnt cost anymore than $15 to make. each pie has shit all meat in it. Never prime cut and pastry is cheap and easy to make. How many bakeries have you worked in? How many family members own bakeries?
